She’s enraged, as no one in post Soviet Russia has ever believed anything they see on screen. If you require knowledge of truth, you must find it yourself, as she had, in beakers and flasks and furnaces. If they were not willing to, they would merely have to rely on the second truth, the one that you learn from someone else. And without am X ray diffraction machine, the photo of the floatiness of the rock would have to do.

🇺🇸 DoE Argonne National Labs: in Illinois, Jorg Maser, the head of the Center for Nanoscale Materials does have an X ray diffraction machine, one that takes spectacularly detailed pictures of crystals, and he stares at the results of the one such. He picks up the phone and calls his colleague, Qazilbash, Hyun Tak’s colleague at William and Mary, yes, could they send over another sample? Yes.. Even if it has to come from South Korea. An incoming call from Lawrence Berkeley National Labs interrupts him, what? Yes he’s working on a characterization for Hyun Tak. Is it for real? Well he’s working on it. There’s a request for supercomputer time from a young researcher, LBNL would have to bump someone senior, was it for real? Yes it was for real dammit. Stop calling me.

🇺🇸 Lawrence Berkeley National Labs: Physicist Sinead Griffin has been restless since the SC Arxiv paper was released. The 1-Dimensional superconductivity theory was outlandish, but, notably not impossible. The selection of the Lead/Copper base has narrowed the search space from pin in the size of the universe, to merely a pin in the solar system. The Big Mutter (aka Perlmutter), LBNL’s supercomputer should take no more than 6 hours for the search. But Griffin would have to bump a senior researcher.. which would come with minor social repercussions later. She sighs, and reaches for the phone.

⏰ Monday
🇷🇺 Russia: Iris, now pushing into her 96th hour awake, has been persuaded by the an Internet horde now numbering into the tens of thousands, to make another attempt. She posts a 9 welled plate, each well containing a slightly different mix of ingredients being inserted into a home crucible. The peanut gallery now contains several future Nobel prize winners hiding behind youthful anime avatars, offering advice she heaps ruinous scorn on. An anonymous heckler finally triggers her and she disappears offline.

💻 The Internet: Early morning, a corrected and updated 6 author paper drops at Arxiv. Hyun Tak kept his word. Scientists across the world pore over it. There are no obvious mistakes or omissions on the graphs this time, just the weirdness of data unexplainable by theory.

🌎 The rotating global horde of nerds loses energy, with no sign of replication, is it truly, as they say, “so over”. Not a single floaty rock, except for the Landau-Lifshitz obsessed anime catgirl, goaded into yeeting off to sleep.

🇺🇸 Two hours, later, Sinead Griffin posts her Arxiv paper, and simultaneously an Obama Mic Drop Gif on Twitter. As the former president turned meme kisses his fingers, the spawn of the Mutter emerges. Ts Choi’s original 1-d theory is both plausible and likely. There are paths, freeways where an electron may zoom along for eternity without ever slowing down, superconducting tunnels through the crystal matrix. And.. these special freeways, are found only where the Copper atoms settle into unlikely hiding places on the Lead lattice. Which now explains the great difficulty and failures of the dozens of replication attempts over the last weekend.

The replication attempts are ongoing and a supposed leak claims a Chinese uni team has done it successfully.

He’s putting his name on the line. Basically saying the papers are crap, the team has infighting.. probably over credit. The 3 man paper hit arxiv 2.5 hours before the 6 author paper.
