Final gathering of the SIRJ lab this semester! We’re soooo proud of these students! 1 PhD defense, 3 papers published, 1 grant approved, other manuscripts under way and mainly: we could never do the research that we do without them!
Much more to come! Now enjoy the summer ☀️
The lab had a great #fieldwork day with #IoTsensors installation & calibration 💦
Special thanks to our amazing team working in the #water even though it finally feels winter is here

Highlights of @sirjLab’s research at Maryland Day! I’m so proud of this group- it’s amazing when we have such a team doing amazing research! Go team!
This year we had a big table w/ IoT Project and Water Emergency Team (collab w/ SPH) @WET_umd#flooding#sewage#bacteria
Our models R-square values accounted for around 60% of the storm sewer pipe variation.
And even while controlling for several landscape and built factors, and accounting for inflated betas as a result of spatial autocorrelation, the SVI was still statistically significant!
Our lab is on a roll with our latest manuscript, “Socially vulnerable people and stormwater infrastructure: A geospatial exploration of the equitable distribution of gray and green infrastructure in Washington D.C.”

We are happy to announce that our PhD candidate Minkyu Park is now Dr. Park!

Celebrate the new PhD with us! Congratulations, Minkyu! 🥳
Hot off the press 📠, our latest manuscript, “Slow Violence to Disasters: Exploring racialized topographies & contextualizing social vulnerability to flood & other environmental risks” led by our dual degree masters student, Asia Jones. Congrats Asia! 🎉
