A Maasai man walked into a bank in Nairobi and asked for a loan. He told the loan officer that he was going to Dubai on business for four weeks and needed to borrow $45 (approximately 27,000 FCFA).

The loan officer told him that the bank would need collateral for the loan. Then the Maasai man handed him the keys to a brand new Mercedes Benz S 500, parked on the street in front of the bank.

The Maasai man showed the vehicle's registration documents and everything was in order. The loan officer agreed to accept the car as collateral for the loan.

The bank director and his colleagues all mocked the Maasai for using a $133,000 Mercedes Benz (approximately 80 million FCFA) as collateral for a $45 loan.

A bank employee then parked the Mercedes Benz in the bank's underground parking lot. Four weeks later, the Maasai man had returned, repaid the $45 plus interest, which amounted to $1.50.

The agent then stated: "Sir, we were very pleased to deal with you. This transaction went very smoothly, but we are somewhat puzzled. During your absence, we reviewed your file and discovered that you are a multimillionaire. What intrigues us is, why would you bother borrowing $45?"

The Masai replied, "Where else in NAIROBI could I park my car for four weeks for only $46.50 and expect it to be there when I returned?"
