Certainly it’s not ideal in terms of getting out of sync, but Rome also said that getting hurt half way through Y1 in the offense.
It should be easier to catch up
when it’s Y2.
Burden has an entire season, offseason, OTAs, and half of camp where he participated.
As for the groin, of course it could linger.
But unless it is very severe, most groin injuries are healed within 4-5 weeks. Some in as little as 2-3 weeks.
It would make sense to let it heal as well as it can by icing him until Week 1. And worst case, he misses a game or two, but that’s not likely with the typical recovery window for this injury.
If we get more information that it is very severe, I’ll adjust my outlook. But based on what we know now, it seems like it’s probable he could be ready W1.
And yes, it could recur and has a higher chance of recurring than some other injuries.
But let’s cross that bridge when we come to it if and when Burden re-injures it. It’s not guaranteed that he will.
Considering the range of things that could have been injured in that play, this is relatively good news vs. many more severe outcomes that could have transpired.
That’s where the optimism in my post comes from. Relative to that.
