Bringing basketball into math too! Because who can pass up some red ropes at a game? Today we split up red ropes into fractional pieces based on story problems Just enhancing our Bridges lesson that already had a version of this activity!@EngageTeachers #engageHSD #proudtobeHSD

Book tryouts were a hit! Over an hour of reading in 3rd grade as students picked their books for the tournament! Many continued reading in line, at recess and even on the bus! Score! #engageHSD #engagingteachers @EngageTeachers

@vanessathethird @EngageTeachers I just went and pulled some books from our library after school on Friday. We are starting at 9:30 on Monday- if you wanted to stop by we would love it! I could always use more books too if you want to come a little early and help pull some more for me 🥰

I can’t wait for Monday!! March Madness will be in full swing in 3rd grade! We are starting off with book tryouts and incorporating basketball and teamwork in any we can the entire month! @EngageTeachers #engageHSD #proudtobeHSD

When you have left over pieces from the basic fraction ordering lesson and challenge kids to use them to find equivalent fractions... the results and discovery are amazing! Most kids took on the optional challenge! I love it! #mathconnectsus #proudtobeHSD

A little elapsed “Valen-time” mixed with the scientific process as students hypothesized, observed and collected data about which substances dissolved candy hearts the quickest! Total engagement all day as kids constantly checked on our experiment! #engagingHSD #proudtobeHSD

Today we used a giant hanging number line to help us visually see how to round numbers to the nearest thousand! The kids loved walking the number line and discussing where they should place numbers and justifying their rounding! #proudtobeHSD #engageHSD @EngageTeachers

This week we eased back into math with a Marshmallow Math review! Students earned marshmallows to compete in the marshmallow games! One for each correct answer and two for showing your thinking! The games were fun too! @EngageTeachers #engageHSD

BRING MATH TO LIFE As we wrap up the canned food drive & our unit on multiplying and rounding I brought in cans and set them out with a simple prompt. This was the fav place during morning choice as kids figured out how many cans and the price using rounding #proudtobeHSD
