You may look at this picture and see a caring granddaughter comforting her beloved grandfather as he lies in a weakened state in a hospital bed.

The truth is that this woman is a police officer and she met Bob only two years ago while she was on duty. Lawrenceville Police Officer Dena Walker Pauly's life was changed forever when she was dispatched to a local pawn shop, where staff were unsure how to help him.

Life has not been kind to Bob. He's been on his own since he was a child and has no known family. He was homeless most of his life and a stroke eventually left him non-verbal. His life is a series of sad stories strung together by poverty and loneliness.

Officer Pauly arrived at the pawn shop and was also unsure how to assist Bob, but she sensed he needed help and offered to take him home so he could show her what he needed. She was horrified when she saw Bob's living conditions.

She may have been dispatched that day by police radio, but we have no doubt she was really sent by God. She immediately addressed Bob's deplorable living conditions and taught him basic skills such as throwing garbage in the trash can rather than the floor. She's ensured he has food to eat and routinely cleans his small apartment.

She eventually sought and received a Power of Attorney for Bob's medical care. He's been in the hospital since May and today was an important day for Bob and Dena.

Officer Pauly made the difficult decision to begin hospice care for Bob, so she held his hand and told him many times that she loved him. It's quite possible she's the first person to ever utter those words to this poor man.

This photo depicts the true nature of law enforcement officers. We are drawn to this profession because we care. We care so deeply that it hurts sometimes. We see the worst, but sometimes we also get to see the best. And we have opportunities to truly make a difference for people.

Like Bob.

Officer Pauly, your dedication and commitment to your oath of office, and fellow man, embodies what it means to be a Police Officer. Stories like this happen every day, but because they don’t fit a certain narrative, no one hears about it.

Love on Full Display

There are some things life changes without asking permission.

Sickness can change your routine. Pain can change your pace. Weakness can change how you move through the world. But one thing I have learned is that real love does not disappear just because life looks different.

Real love adjusts.

It may not always show up the way it used to, but it still shows up. Sometimes love is loud and obvious. Other times it is quiet, patient, and steady. Sometimes love is not found in grand gestures, but in daily faithfulness. It is in the person who stays. The one who notices. The one who serves when no one is clapping.

I used to think love had to look a certain way to feel complete. But suffering has taught me that love is deeper than a moment. Love is not just what we receive when life is easy. Love is what remains when life becomes complicated.

The Bible says, “Love never fails.” That does not mean love never gets tired. It does not mean love never cries. It does not mean love never has to change clothes, change plans, or change expectations.

It means real love keeps choosing to be present.

That is encouragement for somebody today. Do not despise the way love looks in this season. Maybe your life does not look like it used to. Maybe your body, your family, your marriage, your ministry, or your future has changed. But God can still reveal beauty through what remains.

Love does not have to be perfect to be powerful.

Love does not have to be easy to be holy.

Love does not have to look the same to still be real.

So today, I thank God for the kind of love that adapts, endures, serves, and stays. Because when life takes away what is familiar, God has a way of showing us what is faithful.

And faithful love is still love on full display.

I may piss a few of you off by posting this. We can handle it one of two ways: discuss it like adults or you can unfriend me. Your choice. You have your opinion and I have mine. Before anyone gets their panties in a wad, I add that my ancestors were here, LONG before the Anglos!!
My ancestors, learned the language and worked and never once did I hear any of them trash America. They became citizens, were proud to be one and some served in the military! I am nice to everyone and I have no problem with anyone coming here and making a good life for themselves and their family, BUT if you are coming here and expect us to become what you just came from, then that’s not happening! Return and work on your country and make it better where you can be proud to live in it.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language.

Most Americans believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools.

If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our "culture." We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us. This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this.

But once you are done complaining and whining about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great AMERICAN freedom,

"THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".

If you aren't happy here, then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country that accepted you.
