@mk_citizen Delighted to be in the final as SME Employer of the Year, fantastic recognition for the team's deep commitment to apprenticeship development.
Congratulations to all the finalists and look forward to celebrating with you next month π₯π
@Adrianepdavey@ChrisRuddock2@Monty_Electrics@switchlec@keellelectrical Nope. My Dad and partner are, as are the 30+ people I have on site, plus most in the office (11). Not to mention the 20+ apprentices I've supported to completion.
I know a good sparky. I also understand systems thinking.
We are actually on the same side.
@Monty_Electrics@ChrisRuddock2@switchlec@keellelectrical@Adrianepdavey There's no perfect, easy or quick way and it's bigger than electrotechnical disciplines, it's across all construction and built environment occupations. Interesting to see how the Building Safety Regulator (HSE) picks this up
@ChrisRuddock2@Monty_Electrics@switchlec@keellelectrical@Adrianepdavey However the principle of proper, time-served, work-based training to a decent standard generally holds the test of time across technical occupations, especially when it's safety critical. Electrical employers are generally get that, thats why it's the most popular apprenticeship
@ChrisRuddock2@Monty_Electrics@switchlec@keellelectrical@Adrianepdavey I joined the industry 15 years ago and at first couldn't work out the skiils position apprentices coming though not competent, some 'unqualified' electricians extremely competent. It's difficult to create a level playing field with such complicated history...
@Monty_Electrics@Adrianepdavey As Steve Clifton posted, the EAS Quals Guide lists acceptable quals for Qualified Supervisors. As Adrian rightly says there is no protection of title for an electrician, however there is an occupational standard and this is endorsed by employers and industry.
@Monty_Electrics@Adrianepdavey EAS spec sets out the rules certification or registration bodies use to permit enterprises to UKAS accreditation schemes. EAS Appendix 10 sets out competence requirements for different work activity for employed persons (wide definition including subbies and agencies), from EAWR
@BuildingPeople @BESAGroup@YouthBuildVUK @DCS_Leaders @StudyUCEM @HelenYeulet@ShenaazChenia @outsidewrecker4 @AbisogunOBE Great night and company. Most importantly fantastic recognition for the great work of @BuildingPeople supporting culture change for a fairer and more inclusive industry.
@electrician_247@Monty_Electrics@Adrianepdavey @dtselectrical @AshmanServices I think deep down everyone actually wants the same thing, there's just a lot of complicated history to navigate and sometimes industry hasn't done itself any favours. The training forum yesterday was very encouraging, fantastic contributions from the speakers and attendees
@electrician_247@Monty_Electrics@Adrianepdavey @dtselectrical @AshmanServices It's a really confusing historical landscape, loads of different qualification numbers. Thankfully we're moving to a simpler system with clear pathways to occupational competence which will be much easier to understand π
