Because I cooked an event you attended in early 2022. The venue’s policy was: if you wanted to attend unmasked, you had to be vaccinated (this didn’t stop until April that year at this venue). You also had to RSVP well in advance and provide a negative COVID test before the event. So if you were there, you met those requirements. But by all means, keep bullshitting.

Republicans are scapegoating Fauci because they can't handle the truth that Donald Trump was directly responsible for COVID-19 getting as bad as it did. He downplayed it from the very start, undermined experts, and spread dangerous misinformation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Fauci did everything in his power to save as many lives as possible, urging Americans to wear masks, socially distance, and treat the coronavirus like the deadly threat it was. He's an American hero.

If anyone should be hauled in front of Congress to testify about their behavior during the pandemic, it's Trump.

In 2000, Adam Kidan and lobbyist Jack Abramoff bought the SunCruz Casinos gambling fleet for $147.5 million. They didn't have the money. They invented a $23 million wire transfer to convince lenders they'd made a down payment, then used that fiction to obtain a $60 million loan.

Both pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy in 2006. Both got 70 months. Kidan served less than half and walked out in 2009.

The court ordered $21.7 million in restitution, owed jointly with Abramoff to the lenders they deceived. Interest has been accruing since March 2006. There is no indication in Kidan's Miami court file that he ever paid a dollar of it.

Among those owed: Aristotle and Alexander Hren-Boulis. Their father, Gus Boulis, the Greek immigrant who built SunCruz and Miami Subs from nothing, was shot dead on a Fort Lauderdale street in February 2001, during the fallout from the SunCruz deal, by a Mafia hitman. A mob associate Kidan had brought into the business later pleaded guilty in connection with the killing. Kidan was never charged in the murder and testified against the men who were.

Since 2017, Kidan has given millions to Trump's campaigns, Trump committees, the RNC, the NRCC and Republican candidates nationwide. Over $1.13 million during the 2024 run. Just under $1 million more in this cycle alone. He was married at Mar-a-Lago in 2023 with Trump in the photos, at a club whose initiation fee that year was $700,000.

On June 30 he wrote $2,600 to the leadership PAC of Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, a Pennsylvania Republican in one of the country's tightest races, a week after Trump campaigned in his district. On July 3, Trump pardoned him. The felony is gone. The $21.7 million is gone.

His name never appeared in the Justice Department's clemency database. He didn't wait in line, because he didn't have to.

One week later, Trump denied 5,607 commutation applications and 300 pardon requests. People with no donors, no lobbyists, no Mar-a-Lago membership, who filed the paperwork and waited their turn.

Boulis's sons will never collect. Kidan has a clean record. That is the entire pardon system in one file.

This is exactly when conservatives turned Fauci into a political target.

He could have taken the easy path, endorsing ivermectin, rejecting masks, social distancing, and vaccines, and many partisan voices would have celebrated him. Instead, he followed the best available medical evidence, knowing it would make powerful people his enemies.

It would have been easier to agree when President Trump publicly suggested ideas like using light or disinfectants as potential COVID-19 treatments. Fauci didn't.
He stuck to science.

Was every decision perfect? No. Could some decisions have been different in hindsight? Of course. That's the reality of managing a once-in-a-century pandemic with limited and constantly evolving evidence.

What hasn't changed is that COVID-19 vaccines saved millions of lives.

The obsession with turning Fauci into the villain while many alleged Epstein associates still haven't been held accountable is a remarkable distortion of priorities.
