I was honoured this morning to sign an MOU with Pacific Community (SPC) Director General @psvivili to strengthen the partnership between @UNmigration and @spc_cps on our work on climate mobility, disaster risk resilience, & migration statistics to support countries in the region.
This week, with the support of KOICA @IOMSolomons received NFIs for pre-positioning, to support ongoing response to the impacts of TC Maila affecting Choiseul and Western Provinces, and ensuring that immediate needs of affected populations are met ๐ธ๐ง๐บ๐ณ
Last week I visited Gizo in Solomon Islands to see first hand the impact of Cat 5 tropical cyclone Maila in Western and Choiseul provinces. I met with govt representatives, other humanitarian partners on the ground and reassured the SI government ๐ธ๐ง of @UNmigrationโs support
Cyclone Maila has left communities in Solomon Islands struggling with damaged infrastructure and limited access to basic services.
IOM and partners are working to ensure those affected receive the support they need.
Migration is happening everywhere, and no country can manage it alone.
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration helps countries work together, and the #IMRF2026 is where progress is reviewed and the next steps take shape.
