Professional figure skating music editor. He/him.
Rarely on Twitter now. Come visit my new home on Bluesky (@skatingmusicguy.bsky.social) if you fancy a chat!
The Sound on Sound article about how I made the music for @PennyCoomes & @N_Buckland's Olympic SD has come out from behind its subscriber paywall. So if you want to know why the program is full of firewood, or see Nick dancing with his cat, take a look: https://t.co/XQ7d4hUjhj

Thanks @ISU_Figure for all that you do, it's not easy work and we all appreciate that. Hopefully the criticism in this thread was constructive rather than, you know, the other sort. :) Looking forward to the new season!
I don't spend much time here any more, I'm mostly on Bluesky where they have moderators and, you know, a shared reality based on objective truth. π But I'm back over here to call on @ISU_Figure to do three things.
So choosing music was extremely difficult for the last two seasons. For this Olympic year I'd love to see @ISU_Figure match up the required RD pattern with a time period or style where that rhythm was actually popular. Let's see some really coherent, fun RDs!
Posting some high-quality content on Good Twitter aka Bluesky. Starting with some thoughts on an excellent podcast about music editing for dance (thx @IDAadjudicators @squirreltrench) and, um, some ranting about Corporate Traveler Powered By Melon. See you over there.
Today I created a Bluesky account, handle in bio. Come over and say hi!
I'll still pop in here occasionally but the plan is to use the new platform a bit more & the racist/misogynist/xenophobic/homophobic/antisemitic/conspiracy-minded/intolerant platform a bit less, you know? π
The result was KanaDai skating to The Mask, totally illegal but nobody understood the rules well enough to pick them up on it.
This year is the same. The rules are fine - narrow, sure, but clear at least. But the examples given seem to immediately break those same rules.
A very valid point, thank you @maryalicepowell .
My problem is that disco & hustle are listed by the ISU as two separate examples. Hustle I understand - as you said, it's a partnered dance. But as soon as you list hustle separately, disco seems to break the rule.
It feels like musicals year, when the tech committee issued very good, clear-cut rules, then gave the example of A Star Is Born (*not* a musical, apparently) which didn't fit the rules it was supposed to be illustrating, and confused the heck out of everyone.
I've created half a dozen RDs so far, and I have a few more on the schedule.
All but one are disco.
There's a strong chance the tech committee may have inadvertently created Disco Year.
