@KTB_500 I remember when the DoD pay tables were changed in the mid โ90s , with more pay to each higher grade, and less for years of service. The result was promoting people faster in order to retain them- not confidence in their ability to actually perform at a higher grade.
@infantrydort Decades ago a 110 ASVAB was required to contract. Additionally, there was a min SAT / ACT score for high school applicants or a college GPA min for those already in college. Not sure when those went away.
Decades ago Army ROTC required prospective cadets to get a 110 on the ASVAB to contract. I forget the mins set, but additionally those applying from high school needed a min SAT or ACT score, and those in college for over a year required a min GPA in lieu of the SAT or ACT min score.
@dmbkparker Send people only to badge schools if required by duty position in unit of assignment. If the training is highly specialized, then multiple, back-to-back utilization tours of the learned skill should required.
@infantrydort We evaluate potential officers on physical courage, but pay lip service to moral / ethical courage. Not sure how to acculturate that as leaders protect themselves, and It's always going to be a person - many times someone in the command chain who'll be accused of such failure.
