Today is Don Reno’s birthday. No offense to Earl but Don was more innovative. Chordal runs, tremolo picking, guitar-type strumming, jazz, swing, early rock and roll – it’s all there in his playing. Strong tenor vocalist and could write songs as well. Bill wanted him but Don went off to fight WWII. When he returned Earl had already taken the role. Happy birthday Don.
“His First New York Concert,” the ads promised. Certainly his longest New York concert then, and the first with his face and name on a poster.
Today: Exploring a high-profile (but almost empty) early Dylan show at Carnegie Chapter Hall, November 4 1961.

Sorry to hear the news about Garth Hudson. He was a beautiful guy and the real driving force behind The Band. Just listen to the original recording of The Weight and you’ll see.
Today, we sadly say goodbye to Garth "Honey Boy" Hudson, the last living original member of The Band. A musical genius and cornerstone of the group’s timeless sound, Garth once said, “I found some true enjoyment in helping people get to the bottom of their feelings.” Through his music, he did just that—helping us all feel more deeply and connect to something greater. Rest easy, Garth. 🕊

Blood on the Tracks came out 50 years today!
I spoke to Paul Till, who took the cover photo (no, it's not a painting). The 20yo college dropout had sent some live shots to the Dylan office on a whim. He'd found their address in the phone book.

The late co-leader of The Olivia Tremor Control and Circulatory System and a guiding force behind Elephant 6, Will Cullen Hart leaves behind a decades-long legacy of tracking and collaging as prolifically as he spoke. https://t.co/51YTujCVwS
David Lynch, our beloved dad, was a guiding light of creativity, love, and peace. On Monday, January 20th—what would have been his 79th birthday—we invite you all to join us in a worldwide group meditation at 12:00pm NOON PST for 10 minutes.
Let us come together, wherever we are, to honor his legacy by spreading peace and love across the world. Please take this time to meditate, reflect, and send positivity into the universe.
Thank you for being part of this celebration of his life.
Love,
Jennifer, Austin, Riley and Lula Lynch
Spoke to Terri Thal, Bob Dylan's first manager (before Grossman!), about what managing Bob meant when he was an actual complete-unknown, Dylan writing about her in Chronicles, and whether the new movie captured the people and Village scene she knew.
