Why can’t your experience and mine both be true at the same time?

The existence of exploitation in the adult industry is real and absolutely deserves to be talked about. There are people who have been hurt, coerced, taken advantage of, and ignored. Those stories matter.

But their existence does not erase people like me who genuinely enjoy making adult content and chose this path. My positive experience does not invalidate someone else’s trauma, and someone else’s trauma does not invalidate my autonomy.

What frustrates me is when people replace one stereotype with another. “All sex workers are empowered and liberated” ignores people who are struggling. But “anyone who says they enjoy this is just performing for men or being a pick-me” also removes our agency.

I’m not asking anyone to pretend exploitation doesn’t exist. I’m asking for people to accept that sex workers are individual human beings with different lives, choices, experiences, and relationships with our work.

Advocating for sex workers should include listening to all of us, not only the stories that confirm what you already believe.
