@hecubian_devil This isn't something leftists just now figured out. People have been pointing out responsibility-washing in predictive policing in the 2010s. We've known for a long time that organizations use algorithms as a way to abdicate responsibility for their actions.
The Israeli government is in peak propaganda mode right now trying to frame violence between genocidal Israeli soccer hooligans and the locals they provoked as some sort of pogrom.
They are determined to strip away any meaning of antisemitism or its history for psychotic political ends. Sort of incredible to see how there is no low.
Watching Gen Z men veer right hits different for Millennials. We lived through Columbine, 9/11, the Iraq War, 2008 crash, 2016 election, covid, abortion bans, & now this. We watched institutions repeatedly fail us while older generations selfishly protected the status quo. 🧵1/
@itamarlandau@Evan_Low Hamas isn't forcing Israel to commit genocide. While Hamas has accepted a ceasefire proposal, Netanyahu has steadfastly rejected a ceasefire.
@equalityAlec Los Angeles Times and CNN did the same thing. A brief sentence about land sale buried deep in the article, doing their best not to explain the land was obtained by ethnic cleansing.
@logi_con @diannaeanderson @angie_c_w There aren't objective criteria for womanhood. Sometimes people object and say something about genitals or eggs, but those same people are comfortable calling someone "he" or "she" without doing a genital exam, so that's a red herring.
@Sackless_Jack That is how denialism works. Denialism needs to be plausible, so they carefully edit the truth to support the conclusion they want.
Not so different from how climate denialists "disprove" global warming by selectively forgetting facts.
JK Rowling threatens to sue anyone who rightfully calls out the things she says are anti-trans.
She can only do this in the UK where defamation laws allow people with money to chill free speech.
JK Rowling is a holocaust denier, denying trans people were targeted.
@JAldrichPL@ProfJosiah@vickiebananas Please take this newfound awareness of what you don't know and apply it to how you defended the NSA a few days ago.
@JAldrichPL@Manawyrm@whitequark@TaliaRinger This sounds a lot like the excuses made for the police force in the USA. But police officers who stick to their ideals don't improve the system, they just get punished by it. Why is the NSA any different?
@JAldrichPL@whitequark@TaliaRinger When acceptance is not mutual—the NSA did not tolerate Thomas Drake's different opinions—what should we do about it?
@JAldrichPL@whitequark@TaliaRinger I'm trying to figure out the limits of your acceptance. After World War 2, the US invited many Nazi scientists to work in the US, including on rocketry and chemical weapons—is this an example of accepting differences?
