You know what lady?
I saw your post earlier today and at first I just laughed it off. I even made fun of it in a post of my own.
But then as the day wore on, I started to get mad the more I thought about what you said and the wretched comparison you attempted to make.
Then I saw Data Republican’s takedown on you, and it turns out you are yet another spoiled fatcat making riches off the Deep State.
Now I am PI$$ED OFF.
Let me tell you a few things.
A dear friend died in the Pentagon on 9/11. Her name was Rosemary Chapa. She was a senior civilian in the Defense Intelligence Agency who worked her way up from being a clerk/typist. She was all of about five feet tall, she loved her husband, her children and her grandchildren, and she collected bottles of hot sauce (they were all over her cubicle when I worked with her). She was one of the most joyful people I have ever known. Her laugh was infectious and she lit up every room she walked into. And terrorists murdered her on 9/11.
Those same terrorists started wars that I then served in multiple times, at great personal cost. I lost friends and colleagues in battle, and I was fortunate enough to come home with my body intact, unlike so many of my peers.
Like many, I still bear the invisible scars of that day and the many days after.
And all President Trump is doing is improving the White House so we have a grand facility to hold events with foreign leaders, rather than sticking them in the backyard in a drafty tent.
That is ALL HE IS DOING, for my benefit and for yours.
HOW DARE YOU COMPARE THAT SIMPLE ACT OF AMERICAN EXCELLENCE TO 9/11.
HOW DARE YOU. HAVE YOU NO DECENCY, MA’AM?????
Your despicable post disgraces Rosemary, everyone who died that day, everyone who served and suffered thereafter, and pretty much everything that brave Americans have endured for 24 years.
You disgust me. You should delete this post, delete your account, hang your head in shame and contemplate some way that you can show valid repentance for this disgusting display of America-hatred.
DISGUSTING.
Now scram.
As I sat though tonight's Kirk vigil in Lakeville, one of several that took place tonight, I asked myself...
... If I were a Democrat in this moment, what would I be doing?
To some degree, I already know the answer, because I already did it back in June after the Hortman murders.
I'd be out there day one condemning the act and policing my own.
I'd be shouting down misinformation, even when it comes from a popular US senator whose politics I share.
I'd be engaging with media that's been critical of me and talk about how we can have better conversations.
And I'd be attending remembrances...
As a matter of record, I declared my intent to attend the Hortman vigil at the capitol with my family. But I was waved off by a member of the capitol security team because they'd received intel on a credible threat against any Republican in attendance. That turned out to be from Democrat lobbyist Johnathan Bohn, who was arrested and charged.
Even so, I and most of my GOP colleagues were later in attendance at the Hortman funeral.
So. That's how I know what I'd be doing now if I was a Democrat... because I already did it as a Republican.
But. There's some things I can only speculate about. Because there are substantive differences between the reactions to Hortman and Kirk.
For instance, Mike Lee's comment notwithstanding (which I and other local electeds condemned), there was no massive outpouring of hatred, vitriol, and critical essays about Melissa Hortman from prominent figures.
... and... BTW... now that there's been some space to grieve... that was *not* because such criticism could not have been made... but because those of us who could have made them have the basic human decency to not do so before someone is buried.
So. I can't tell you for sure what I would do if dozens of my House Republican colleagues and congrespeople came out with damning critiques of Hortman before she was in the ground.
... because that didn't happen.
But. I can imagine. I can extrapolate based on what I already did.
And I'm confident that, if my party was acting that reprehensibly, and there were multiple vigils going on for Hortman (where, presumably, there wasn't a Democrat lobbyist trying to shoot me), I'd be getting in front of that potentially hostile crowd to condemn my colleagues' behavior and pledge to work as a change agent to restore the social contract where we don't dance on each others' graves.
Aside from being the right thing to do, it would be a tremendous leadership opportunity, because such abhorrent behavior is not sustainable. And leading with morality in that moment would set the stage for leading in other ways.
...
Alas. To my knowledge. None of my Democrat colleagues are thinking this way.
Sad.
Also, pathetic.

@BoKnowsWeather Weatherunderground is my go-to App / radar for day to day. I also monitor several pages on NWS website. (Active Alerts, 7-day Forecast, Weather Prediction Center, and Natl Hurricane Center), but I need to for threat assessments for work.
@Michele_Tafoya Doesn’t matter. MN Democrats dutifully get behind their candidate when it’s time to vote. Just because they don’t want him to run doesn’t mean they won’t vote for him.
