Are you familiar with the word "Peer pressure"? In secondary school, it's easy to feel pressured to fit in with the crowd, but going along with what everyone else is doing can make you lose sight of who you really are. Stay true to yourself even when it's tough.
A common myth that says "academic success is the most important factor for teenagers and mental health concerns should take a backseat".
Prioritizing your mental wellbeing is essential for your overall academic success and happiness . Your happiness is ESSENTIAL 🙌🏾.
The moral of this story is that just because everyone is doing it one way doesn't mean you shouldnt do it the right way.
An NGO contacted me to ask if I could be a spokesperson for a campaign. The cause is something I care about and have advocated for for years.
I thanked them for reaching out to me and asked what about their budget. The response I got was that they dont usually pay people. They said that most people do it for free because it's a good cause.
It is a good cause I said but if you don't have a budget it tells me you're not very serious about hiring a spokesperson. I sent them my bio, my social media analytics and rate card.
They said they would discuss it with their partners and asked how much I wanted to be paid. I told them to develop a brief with the details of the campaign, I gave them some questions to answer.
They developed the brief and sent it to me. I responded and sent them and invoice. I charged $1500 to appear in a 3 minute video and to share the video on my social media channels.
They accepted the invoice, did not negotiate terms. I shared with them a contact with a videographer they could hire for the video.
Today I learned the videographer has been hired. We shoot next month.
I look forward to working on this project and to amplify their messages.
A lot of people are happy to work for free and sell themselves short. Imposter syndrome makes them believe that just being seen, visibility is enough.
“Make ah no ask for wetin ah want make dem no go to other posin.” I never fear losing something that isn't mine.
$1500 isn't a lot of money sure but it's enough to cover one term school fee and lunch for my son. If I had done this work for free na me Pikin e school fee money ah for bin miss out pan so.
Hustle, hustle, hard! Closed mouths don't get fed on the boulevard.
Jummah Mubarak, may Allah accept our fast and duas.🙏🏾
