idc that it’s Charlie Puth saying all this. Distorted 808s weren’t about compensating for phone speakers. They were an expressive choice shaped by specific hip-hop subcultures and attitudes. Collapsing that into some hardware explanation flattens the culture behind the sound.

If Marty Supreme ends up out grossing contemporary blockbusters, it pretty much proves we need to rethink how we get people into theaters in the gooner era where the average doughball can’t be bothered to put their phone down for a few consecutive hours
