Good seeing Jeff Heinen during one of downtown Heinen’s final days. His family opened the store in the historic Cleveland Trust rotunda in 2015. Thanks to Jeff for stopping for a photo and to the Heinen family and staff for 11 memorable years downtown.

Great meeting the hardworking and interesting Dorian Barringer at Congin’s Pizza at Nottingham Road and St. Clair Avenue. Originally from Queens, Dorian moved to Cleveland in 2015 and has worked at the family-owned neighborhood shop for five years. This spot opened here in 1983.

Loved visiting the Duval Lab at CWRU and meeting the talented people behind the science. The team develops new materials and processes to separate valuable elements from used nuclear fuel, industrial waste and mining waste. Thanks to everyone for showing me their amazing work.

Nice meeting Vashawn Saunders, who grew up around E. 131st and has lived in downtown Cleveland for two years. This November, he’ll be closing in on one year working at the Brass Moon Espresso Bar at 1127 Euclid Ave. Great talking with him and hearing his Cleveland story.

Great hanging out with Matt Childers, a musician and designer who has called Larchmere home for 10 years. I loved hearing him talk about his years creating Cleveland designs. You can tell how much each one means to him. Now he’s building Matt Makes Tees. Instagram: @mattmakestees

Great meeting three researchers @cwru: KangJin Lee, originally from Seoul; Shweta Sharma, from Firozabad, India; and Muhammad Haroon, from Lahore. Their work spans materials innovation, coatings and the physics of self-propelling micro-robots. Thanks to the group for the photo.

I met Jim Briola at Playhouse Square and photographed him beside the marker honoring his uncle, Detective Martin J. McFadden, whose actions led to the landmark Terry v. Ohio decision. Jim also built the sign business that became the employee-owned Ohio NCSL Cooperative.

Happy 31st Anniversary to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum!

On September 2, 1995, the iconic glass pyramid on Cleveland’s lakefront threw open its doors and forever changed the way the world celebrates the music that defined generations.
