1. CS is large. - Policies regulating development of new cabins should balance environmental costs against welfare benefits.
2. Demand appears to be inelastic. - Potential to tax cabin owners more to offset the environmental degradations cabins cause.

Konseptet har en samfunnsøkonomisk nettonytte (alle nyttevirkninger minus alle kostnadsvirkninger) på minus 277 mrd. kr. Å bygge banen har den samme velferdsvirkningen for samfunnet som å helle bensin over 277 mrd. kr og tenne på.
Nord-Norgebanen fra Fauske til Tromsø med arm til Harstad har en foreslått kostnadsramme på 333 mrd. kr. Det er snaut 30 mrd. kr. mer enn Islands bruttonasjonalprodukt.
Gjennom levetiden vil det føre til 7,75 mill. tonn CO2-utslipp. Det er 7,75/0,9 = 8,6 ganger så mye utslipp som forårsakes av Melkøya per år. Sparte utslipp som følge av overføring av trafikk til bane er på i underkant av 3 mill. tonn. Altså vil nettoutslippene øke.
