David Eby seems to think being a billionaire is something to be condemned.
Maybe he should take a look at what Jimmy Pattison has actually done for British Columbia.
• EXPO 86: Pattison worked virtually full-time for five years without compensation to help make Expo 86 a reality and putting Vancouver on the world stage
• Health care: He donated $75 million to St. Paul’s Hospital, described by the B.C. government as a historic contribution to Canadian health-care philanthropy. (BC News)
• Royal Columbian Hospital: He donated $30 million toward the redevelopment, with the new acute-care tower now bearing his name.
• Surrey health care: He donated $5 million toward the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, helping fund equipment and attract physicians.
-Vancouver General Hospital: donated $20 million to VGH
-He made major contributions to Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, Burnaby, Kelowna General and Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. A 2024 grant record shows nearly $20 million in foundation grants in one year, much of it going to B.C. health care.
- Children’s health: the Pattison Group, has contributed tens of millions of dollars to B.C. Children’s Hospital, including $15 million for its family immunization clinic.
• Jobs and investment: The Pattison Group grew from a single Vancouver car dealership into a major Canadian business empire employing thousands of people.
So when David Eby looks at Jimmy Pattison and sees only “a billionaire,” British Columbians should remember what Pattison has actually contributed.
He built businesses. He created jobs. He invested in our communities. He helped put Vancouver on the world stage. And he has donated millions to help British Columbians receive health care.
We should be debating how to create more success stories like Jimmy Pattison not denigrating people simply because they achieved extraordinary success.
B.C. needs more builders, more investment and more ambition, not politicians who turn success into something to be ashamed of and using him for cheap political talking points
So let me get this straight, @Dave_Eby launches an entire campaign around Buy Canada, then goes and stands in front of Cdn-owned Save-on-Foods and slams BC billionaire owner Jimmy Pattison (who donates 10% of annual wealth per year to charity) as a profit gouger, when Pattison is helping him fund $75m towards the NDP's new St. Paul's hospital through the largest donation by a private citizen to a medical facility in Canadian history?
Ooooooookay.
Is this surprising to anyone? This has nothing to do with gender, this has more to do with the fact she has never played the game, is completely invisible in her role & has nothing to show for her tenure, to date. So many succesful female, @HockeyCanada alum should hold the role!
Great for the future of the league, but, no one in their right mind is going to think advertising dollars are going to be remotely the same for this vs. Saturday night NHL game. Is this another excuse for the CBC to not be financially self sufficient & beg for more handouts?
Perhaps most disturbing is the section that asks Concordia students to mobilize to have Palestinian prisoners, including some who have either been involved in or have perpetrated acts of terrorism against Israelis, released.

Funded by government coffers:

Total government grants: about $460.8 million

@MarcMillerVM how many more examples does the @liberal_party government need to look at a massive house clearing at the #CBC ? The fiasco around 9/11 not being addressed as a terrorism act, to the very heavily skewed pro Palestine coverage, when is enough, enough? #cdnpoli
David Eby is the worst Premier that the Province of BC has had in my lifetime and this opportunistic, cynical and unnecessary election is completely self serving and arrogant. I hope he gets the result he deserves, which is nothing short of electoral annihilation, on October 24th
Another violent attack on Jews. A gunman shoots up a synagogue in Belleville. Leaders express their shock and horror. Nothing changes. Canadian Jews deserve to feel safe and protected. Canada is failing them.
Many hours have passed since this shooting and yet, the publicly funded “public broadcaster” has yet to mention it on any of their platforms. @MarcMillerVM , @PascaleStOnge_ comments on this? Perhaps @AndrewScheer and the @CPC_HQ can inquire as to why this is? #cdnpoli
American network ABC is reporting on the Yom Kippur synagogue shooting in Belleville - meanwhile our publicly-funded broadcaster CBC doesn't bother https://t.co/Sd018np8Hz
@brianlilley What appeared at one time, to be a slam dunk win for the @Conservative_BC party has now turned into BC going even further left. Eby will have the freedom to give up as much provincial land as he chooses. #bcpoli
@WarrenSteinley Mr. Steinley, please explain why this is a bad solution for the country given our current trading situation with the US. From early discussions and reasoning, this seems like a smart choice.
@ShootwAuthority@Rickylahey444 From an account with the word parody within their name. If you reviewed actual footage of today’s skate, McDavid is wearing blue and the team is practicing at their practice facility, not the main arena.
@TheRoyGreenShow Let’s not forget who the real mastermind of investment in this country, with his green agenda, carbon tax and other taxes…Gerald Butts!
How much further ahead would Canada be had the Windmill Brothers Trudeau and Guilbeault not blindly stood in the way of investment in this country, coupled with the retention of NIMBY interprovincial trade barriers?
The chancellor of Germany and Prime Minister of Japan were virtually shown the door out of Canada when they individually came In the interest of securing Canadian prosperity supporting LNG deals. https://t.co/77sBV5dj6S
@cbcsports Yet, the @cbc and Rick Mercer were all supportive of this? https://t.co/hHwoUaH0nN and this https://t.co/EU2ugp8x2X . It’s empowering for female athletes to pose for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit or other publications then, it’s appropriate, in only certain cases but not all…
