@Scaramucci That tax revolution is going to be revenue-neutral shift in the tax base off wages and savings and onto economic rents.
Rent-seekers get ready to pay!
@Panzaredda Can confirm! I live here and it's a great place to raise a family. Cost is definitely a premium (and we have to rent to be able to afford it), but it's worth it to us to be able to walk to restaurants/movies/school, own only one car, minimal commute, great parks, and sidewalks!
Very few are building this kind of product today. I'm honored to be working with one of the few groups in the US doing this now here in the Houston area. And we've got 22 units coming down the pipeline!
the amount of bike infrastructure built in east austin over the last decade is almost hard to believe. you can take east 12th from downtown to the boggy creek trail and get all the way up to cherrywood or down to the lake and it’s just absurdly pleasant the whole time
@Philip_DT@YIMBYLAND It was designed in the early 2000’s and was pretty ambitious density for Austin at the time. Could it have been home for many more people? Yeah. Fwiw, its served as an attractive example of what the rest of the low density resi parts of the city could be if they allowed it.
@Philip_DT@YIMBYLAND I live here. You’re not wrong. There are some patches of live/work homes mixed in where there are small businesses at street level. One of them is a tiny cafe. But the majority is segregated resi or commercial. Still way more walkable than 90% of Austin.
@JackCraver ends up better for me in central Mueller. More centrally located stops and a more direct route. But it won't be a huge upgrade until they increase frequency.
Around the country, cities like Austin are throwing out their own parking requirements – hoping to end up with less parking, more affordable housing, better transit and walkable neighborhoods. https://t.co/Rw0qUVKprL
