@Judd_of_Kryos Listening to Actual Plays, I see great NPCs really appear when a player engages imaginatively and properly talks to them. You get that magic Pop of reality/humanity from off the cuff collaborative interplay. Let the players know they share an important part in NPC development!

@Judd_of_Kryos in ghost stories round the fire, it's a bit like daring one another with fear. Everyone has to pitch in because that's how you reveal what is scary to you yourself - then others raise the ante and you all edge closer to the 'danger'. Everyone's got to bring it

The old 'here come the PCs' joke when the party in a #DnD -like #ttrpg walk into the low-magic-setting village looking like WoW characters is a classic

but when people saw a knight in full kit irl it must have felt like a visitation

Knights: ritual, precedence, protocol, hierarchy, tradition... also humility. Also, friendship.

Knights, squires, and bridges

In drawing as in rpg planning, sometimes you get a grand inspiration, and sometimes ideas just bump around sluggishly like ice chunks in a slushy puddle.

It all goes in the sketchbook, in the notebook - nothing is wasted

Classically, knights don't have backstories: they are just a bundle of heredity that runs into an adventure.

Do they ever really get a voice? Maybe that's why they're always a little tragic
