@CoxyJindas In WA it's a bit worse. We have ranked voting will optional preferences only in the Senate federally and LC at state level. But then council elections are a semi FPTP "pick 2" system....
@TomSesselmann@AntonyGreenElec The US has Murdoch, the electoral college, FPTP, Gerrymandering etc etc. We have Murdoch and Druery. The less parasites the better, let's get rid of as many distortions as we can. Abolish the one thing that gives Druery influence
@vrachelv9 @CoxyJindas @Leo_Puglisi6@rwillingham But why stick with GVTs at all? Vic is the only state that still does it and the Senate federally abolished them and has had 3 elections since. Are minor parties dead in the Senate? No. So why keep GVTs?
@hellijr @RubyRegis @Ancray@JohnBarronUSA@abcnews No. But the biases it has generally favour smaller states and incumbent governors. And in any case, there's a massive gap between "this system could be better" and "let's only support the outcome of elections when we agree with the results"
@hellijr @RubyRegis @Ancray@JohnBarronUSA@abcnews To be fair the political fringes are one thing. Contesting the election results and being impeached for an attempt to take over the capital is something else entirely....
@caiobchi @LinusTech According to you I must be a "Liberal". I think we both know if someone like Bill Gates had brought out Twitter and made this move you'd be on here saying how dumb the move was.....
@JohnBarronUSA Dr Oz is like America's Pete Evans. He should really be an unelectable candidate for any sane voter. Doesn't really matter who he's up against
@JeffC58990396@neiltyson "Candidates should accept the results of the election" should not be a political comment. The fact that you think it is political should be a criticism of those who are trying to make it political, not the people making this benign statement
@Codewow_ @Midsouthtesting @neiltyson It's not that people won't tell the truth because it doesn't gain traction. It's that social media promotes content with high engagement, and contentious stuff which tends to be BS gets more comments. So you don't see the mundane truth even when it is posted
@700pre @csd_gay@LinusTech@Apple This is a disingenuous analogy. A more accurate analogy would be why have a physical keyboard when you can just use a touch screen. And sure, virtual keyboards have a place but for actual typing a real KB is clearly better
@700pre @csd_gay@LinusTech@Apple So now you've shifted the posts. Now the argument is that VR gives you a "portable workspace". Well ok, I'd love to see you try and use VR on a bus, train or plane.....
@700pre @csd_gay@LinusTech@Apple Basically my point is that VR definitely has a place. As an educational tool, as a toy, as a tool to communicate inherently 3D products to clients. But for the meat of actual professional work? For colab, for meetings, for getting shit done? I don't really see the value
@700pre @csd_gay@LinusTech@Apple Also your argument that I must be an Apple fanboy distracted by style over substance is kinda amusing. Partly because I am very much not but mostly because my argument here is that there are existing, less flashy solutions that do the job better than VR
@MLShermer92@potatosordfight Not really. I said the meme was BS i.e. it's independent of voting patterns. Look up the US states with the highest homicide rates. Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas.... now I'm not American but I know enough to know these are not "blue states"
@MLShermer92@potatosordfight Actually, I don't think you even know what disenfranchise actually means. Quite literally every example you have given has been either disenfranchisement conservatives support or enfranchisement that they oppose for political advantage
