The argument in this piece -- that Democrats can potentially win a 60-seat supermajority in the Senate -- is so divorced from reality it's embarrassing. The idea that "heterodoxy" or winning on policy can overcome partisanship is, for lack of a better word, a scam. It's absolute nonsense, and I'm genuinely amazed that anyone who has worked in politics actually believes it.

There is one way for Democrats to pass their policy agenda -- abolish the filibuster, add blue-leaning states, expand the Supreme Court, end partisan gerrymandering, increase the size of the House. That's it. Aggressive, ruthless, unsentimental politics that challenges the structural lean of national politics, which has favored Republicans for decades.

Until Democrats stop believing the long-disproven notion that policy wins elections and accept that partisanship drives everything, they will continue to fail.

You’d think that the powerful chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee would know that money was available for these body cams when she tried to blame it on Democrats. So either @SenatorCollins is lying or incompetent. Either should be disqualifying for reelection.

On July 14, Tom Homan, who oversees ICE's immigration crackdown at the White House, said that ICE purchased body cams as soon as Democrats approved funding for DHS in April.

🚨BREAKING: ICE agents were filmed assaulting, handcuffing, and kidnapping a U.S. citizen in Passaic, New Jersey… while refusing to even look at the ID he repeatedly begged them to check.

A man is pleading with federal agents to verify who he is…

And they refused.

Instead, one agent says, “We need to get him on the ground,” puts him in a chokehold, throws him to the ground, and multiple agents pile on top of him before handcuffing him, and throwing him into their vehicle.

Under the Fourth Amendment, the government cannot arrest, or seize someone, without probable cause that they have committed, are committing, or are about to commit an offense that authorizes the arrest.

U.S. citizens are also not required to carry identification unless they’re driving a motorized vehicle.

And if federal agents are refusing to verify someone’s identity before arresting them, then they are openly ignoring the constitution.

Which should terrify every American.

Because that means no one is safe from being kidnapped by the government… and disappeared.

Every agent involved should be publicly identified, and DHS should be forced to explain why they believed they had the legal authority to seize someone, while refusing to verify who he was.

This cannot become normal.

This! Warner has expressed his concerns but offers few plans or commitments to what he is willing fight for. He just wants things to go back to normal so he can hang with his bi-partisan friends across the aisle without drawing attention. Same goes for Kaine.

I like Mark Warner. But could we impose a ban on politicians expressing "concern?" They're elected to DO something--or at least try. Yes, even if they're in the minority. After all, one way out of the minority is to lay out clearly and fight aggressively for an alternative path.
