@AlyssaRosenberg It's unfair and frankly intellectually lazy to claim as you did on the podcast that people who say Lupita is not hot enough are ipso facto being racist. Sade in her prime was a 10. Lupita is an 8. Nice looking woman to be sure, but not beautiful enough to be Helen.
@SonnyBunch@petersuderman@AlyssaRosenberg I consider it perfectly legitimate to wish they had cast only actors who plausibly look Greek. But NB, that also applies to Matt Damon and Tom Holland!
The other problem with Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy is that she is an 8, in a role that inherently requires a 9.5+.
@SonnyBunch@Jamie_Burkart It's the opposite, Miracle Whip was created as a cheap (nasty IMO) alternative to mayo and then they later started scamming customers by charging just as much for it.
@IonaItalia My neighbor, who has told me she has trouble paying the rent for her studio apartment on time, had her DoorDasher accidentally come to my door the other day. Standing there was a man with a single item in his hand: a small, mostly melted DQ Blizzard. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
@fortrain47@Huwbrews@RhyminCarly I eat rice and beans or pasta and vegetables at almost every meal and it taste good to me. I was in jail once and the food was definitely worse than that.
@JohnInMSP@RealBrittHughes That's great if you have the money. But there seems to be some kind of argument being made that poor people deserve to be subsidized to get takeout or delivery every day.
@RealBrittHughes I actually don't claim that the simple meals I make from scratch are better than what's served in a restaurant. But I also don't bankrupt myself by living in a fancy hotel because it's too basic and boring to live in my one bedroom apartment. I don't see how this is different.
@TaylorLorenz@mattyglesias 1. Boil pasta
2. Nuke frozen broccoli
3. Combine, add a splash of EVOO
4. Sprinkle on garlic powder, kosher salt, and fresh ground pepper
You now have a healthy, delicious meal, for maybe two dollars a serving. Miss me with all the excuses. (I am poor BTW: on Medicaid etc.)
@allie__voss I'm GenX, but poor (to give you an idea, I am on Medicaid despite living in a red state as a single adult with no dependents), and I have never ordered DoorDash. I couldn't afford to do it once a week much less every day. I mostly eat pasta, frozen veggies, and rice and beans.
@devahaz I've never ordered from DoorDash; the whole idea seems stupid to me. My girlfriend does it constantly, but at least she orders several items at a time. My neighbor's DoorDasher accidentally came and knocked on my door the other day holding a single small melted DQ Blizzard. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
@SonnyBunch@AlyssaRosenberg@petersuderman I'm usually easily bored by slow cinema (TREE OF LIFE, good lord ๐ฅฑ) but I found JEANNE DIELMAN absolutely mesmerizing, with my main complaint about the film being the ending, where you will find the only "exciting" moment, reminiscent of a more conventional film.
