@lainception@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 In English “Americain noir” is better. Thats what I’m saying. In French you can say things like “Les noirs, Les blancs, Les pauvres”. We don’t do that much in English, not because you cannot grammatically, but because it feels dehumanizing to some.
@lainception@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 No, I wouldn’t assume that a human translator would make that decision without cultural understanding. As I said, both are grammatically correct across languages (americains noirs/noirs americains) but only one is used in each country because culture.
@lainception@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 My purpose is to set the record straight that this is a cultural difference, not even a linguistic one per se. We used to say “the blacks” or American blacks in English as well but now it’s seen as outdated. French don’t have that same feeling. Thats it
@temugiveaway456@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 Noir Americain is literally American black. There’s no hidden nuance in the translation. It’s just an adjective and a noun. That just doesn’t come off as rude in French. Which I know, and never said it did or should. My point is literally that this is a cultural difference…
@temugiveaway456@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 I speak French. I’m stating simple facts. Noir is the noun. Whether that construction comes off as rude or disrespectful in French is a different story. Once again why are you so mad. I’m just autistically setting the record straight not arguing in her favor.
@lainception@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 I didn’t share any personal opinions or feelings. The fact you’ve read them into my tweet shows your stupidity and arrogance. I do hate Europeans but not for linguistic reasons.
@gaarrinb@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 It wasn’t changed so I don’t think you do get that. Noir americain=American black. Black is the noun. This is simply a linguistic sensitivity difference which for the record I don’t care about, just stating cultural perspective.
@temugiveaway456@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 I didn’t offer any of my own personal opinions or judgements, just stated the facts. The fact you’ve somehow read them into my comment shows emotional incontinence, and let’s face it, stupidity on your part.
@ohhnyxmusic@blalouz@TiaraSmith1989 In English when you call someone “a black” as a noun it comes off as disrespectful. Black is usually the adjective. Thats what she’s saying because no one’s told you. Black American ✅ is not the same as American Black ❌ in English.
@annakhachiyan It’s bad because it precludes the possibility of a normal loving relationship, shows a lack of integrity because conservative belief holds that it’s unnatural, which should be cancelled out by lived experience, & making an opportunity cost decision shows small spirit
