For the first time in my life, I am supporting the Republican candidate for President. I voted for Obama twice, then Hillary in 2016, and the Libertarian in 2020. I plan to vote for Trump in 2024. This is what I believe:
Covid lockdowns, mask mandates, and vaccine passports were morally abominable, utterly un-American exercises in rank tyranny.
I recognize that America is a nation of immigrants, but I also want America to be a nation of laws. Therefore, our border must be secured and illegal aliens must be deported.
I want to live in a country in which we are judged by the content of our character and merit is rewarded. I do not want to live in a country in which we are divvied up by race and “equity” is pursued.
I want clear air to breathe and clean water to drink, but I don’t think climate change poses an “existential” threat and I demand continuous access to cheap energy and a gas stove.
Personally, I think abortion should be legal and safe and rare. Politically, I think each state should make its own laws.
I have never owned a gun, but I support the right to own a gun, and I am glad that some of my neighbors own guns.
I support gay rights. I oppose trans rights.
I think parents, not the government, should have control over the lives of their children.
I think every child has the right to a quality education. If the designated public school is not satisfactory, parents should be able to choose a different school.
I want less government interference in my life, not more regulations.
I want fewer experts trying to tell me what to do, not better experts.
I think that government censorship is always unacceptable. And I think that government censorship of “misinformation” by putting pressure on private companies is antithetical to free speech in a particularly dangerous way. And I think that there is no freedom without free speech.
Finally, I agree with Ronald Regan:
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
