The conceit that people in the past were all dumb, gullible rubes to whom we are obviously & profoundly intellectually superior is a defining feature of our own era. It keeps us from grappling in a real way with deep questions about the nature of reality, esp. regarding religion.
@grok@wlerin@michaelmalice@ord_average_guy It’s one thing to argue with an llm about facts.
But arguing over words and grammar and getting BTFO must be rough goddamn.
English is my second language. This is just embarrassing. I feel second hand embarrassment for you.
Your attention is hijacked the moment you wake up.
What you find important (what you care about) even what you believe is being co-authored by systems optimized not for truth or wisdom...but for engagement and profit.
You are embedded in a vast informational environment that overwhelms your inherited systems of sense-making (bombarded by competing claims on your attention, your identity, and your value structure) absorbing the judgments, values, and perspectives of a collective cognitive apparatus that is not under your conscious control.
And there is more:
When you used to ask “What should I do?” or “What does this mean?”, you might have turned to an elder, a pastor, a sacred text.
Now you might ask an AI.
AI is now mediating your agency...sometimes before you even reflect on it.
"Compatibility" is a shibboleth of postmodern mind sickness.
The post-ww2 generations, from Boomers on forward, schooled in postmodern nihilism, prize freedom from responsibility above all things, and despise the very idea of any unchosen obligation.
So they seek "compatible" mates.
But what compatible means is, to them, is "my natural, uninfluenced, behavior fulfills my mate's needs". Sometimes they express this as "he accepts me the way that I am".
Which is, of course, a palatable way of saying "I don't want to have to change or do work".
This falls into the gap between a friend and a pet.
A pet is a companion animal who lives with you because its natural behavior pleases you. A cat is naturally cute, quiet, clean, and low-maintenance. A dog is naturally boisterous, affectionate, and loyal. A bird is naturally loud, destructive, and shits all over everything.
You don't get a cat so you can teach it to fetch a stick. You get a cat because you like the amusing way is already inclined to chase a piece of string.
A friend, unlike a pet, can understand your state of mind and react to your needs by changing his behavior.
If you desire a husband who places no obligations on you, who doesn't want you to work or change, who places no demands upon you, but is "compatible" with who you already are, then you do not want to be a wife, you want to be a pet.
In truth, sex roles are hardwired into human beings, and we are born into the unchosen obligation to fulfill those roles.
Relationships, before postmodern nihilism, worked because people understood that "husband" and "wife" are jobs, with defined roles and responsibilities. Do the proper thing, act the proper way, and your spouse will love you.
The Boomer divorce rate was 50% precisely because they rejected sex roles and sought "compatibility" instead.
If you are trying to date by seeking "compatibility", looking for a girl who shares your love of video games instead of one who is feminine and kind and keeps her apartment clean, then dating is not a progressive process that leads towards marriage.
It is a series of random dice rolls, wherein you pull a random person off the stack, chosen because she likes video games or something, then see if it works out. If not, try again at random.
The generations who shunned any and all obligations ended up the unhappiest of all, because they did not understand that happiness does not come from idleness and the absence of obligations.
It comes from the pride and satisfaction of fulfilling them.
The same women who find this weird also think that “sexualization” is evil, men are too porn-brained, and women need their own spaces to escape the leering & oppressive male gaze.
It’s clear that they aren’t actually interested in sexual virtue or women’s safety, but rather total psychic dominance; a man must be numb to all stimulus, his mind completely blank, until a woman commands otherwise (i.e. “gives consent”). You can see it in the comments on this post: their genuine expectation is that men should have zero private sexual thoughts of their own
>Muslim shoots Jews enjoying the beach.
>Jews hold memorial for those shot.
>Muslim come to support shooters. >Internet calls the Muslim courageous.
What a beautiful microcosm of the Palestine issue.
You seem quite verbose for someone who is simply stating that they have no ethics. Congrats now you got people calling you unethical.
You are proud to have developed the an elaborate mindset of a 2 year old, I don't mean this as an insult that is quite literally the morals of developmental 2 year olds.
What a interesting take.
specially if you were to apply critical theory to some of right wing thought, they are just pragmatist about the future.
Leftist on the other hand, just want to be free to engage in hedonistic behaviors, So they retroactively use academia's resources to come up with all sort of new ways to morally rationalize away the cost of their behaviors, Abortion, being a calculation of killing babies vs the total consequential suffering caused by a sexually liberal society.
In fact they actively blame that very suffering on pro life people's insistence that killing babies is bad lol
Conservative brain can be interesting. They start with a deontological premise, that you must always do good, abortion is murder and therefore evil, you cannot have an abortion.
They assume liberals use the same moral framework, except in reverse. They think we think that murder is good or even doing evil is better than doing good, so they get very confused and cannot understand how liberals reach the conclusions they do.
When conservatives reason like this, it doesn't cross their mind that liberals are not, that we don't look for universal principles or rule-based ethics, and often reach conclusions from a consequentialist framework.
Liberals think abortion is permissible because the alternative in a lot of cases is far worse. That's all that is going on. Which a conservative with a very deontological bent cannot see, so they project their own reasoning patterns on liberals and get wacky conclusions.
“An entire generation killed by cops”
It’s funny to me that nobody actually knows how exactly black people are currently being oppressed.
They just generally tied their condition to bad words like slavery, oppression, genocide, cops, brutality.
The “An entire generation killed” part of the phrase comes from the abortion rhetoric where 1/3 of generation Z, Alpha and rapidly generation Bravo black babies never had a chance due to abortion.
And the cop part, about 7 to 20 UNARMED black men are killed by cops per year. That a whole generation does not make. But it sure vindicates one’s anger and frustration to repeat any of this nonsense doesn’t it?
Nick Fuentes and Hunter Biden SPAR for 7 minutes over black crime
Biden: "An entire generation of African Americans has been getting killed by cops for decades!"
Fuentes: "Because they commit crime!!!"
Here's something truly funny in the darkest possible manner.
The "unflattering" traits listed as characteristic of white culture—even white supremacy culture—by institutions such as the Smithsonian share one fundamental psychological feature in common:
They are all indications of—are you ready for it—the Big Five trait conscientiousness.
Conscientiousness is the best known personality predictor of life success after general cognitive ability (otherwise known as intelligence).
So this means that the idiot leftists who developed and promoted such material proclaim their antiracism by insisting that the very trait most associated with productivity, reliability, diligence, and success is a flaw, unique to white people.
Hard work is key to success.
Work before play.
Delayed gratification.
Future orientation.
Planning.
Punctuality.
Self-reliance.
Respect for authority.
Pure conscientiousness.
"Yo--those n-words shore are lazee..."
Sincerely,
The Democratic Socialists of America
You can't make this stuff up.
In truth, by the way, racial differences in the major personality traits are negligible.
It’s not coherent because that’s not how an unborn baby is viewed by even proabortion people in other circumstances. First the lack of consciousness and ability to feel pain are not scientifically supported. Second and more importantly the moral worth of the unborn in their world view is wholly up to the mother. If she wants a child then it is a person. If she loses the baby she will mourn her loss. If she is murdered the law charges the murderer with two homicides. Speak to any pro-abortion expectant mother and they will not speak of their child in scientifically cold terms, but as their child about to be born. That same woman decides she doesn’t want to have the child, transforms the moral worth of that child into a lifeless sack of cells to be excised. It’s an internally incoherent worldview.
A lot of intellectuals get nervous around free markets because free people make the planner less important.
If a woman in Senegal can open a shop without begging ten offices for permission, hire two people, serve customers, and keep enough of what she earns to grow, she has already solved the problem the conference people wanted to manage for her.
The Marxist professor can still write papers about her, but he cannot design her future from a hotel ballroom.
That is why big government is so attractive to certain people.
It turns their theories into power, and every poor person becomes another argument for giving the planner more authority.
The question I care about is simple:
Does the system let ordinary people build their way out, or does it keep them dependent on powerful people who enjoy being needed?
@nooneatall703@RealAngelaMc@gordonbradley89 I recommend you start noticing individuals.
But then again leftists can’t perceive individuals just tribal group members while they call everyone else bigots and racists.
Your brain is incredible at pattern recognition...but once you see a pattern, it becomes incredibly hard to "unsee" it.
You become trapped in your own mental models.
The frame becomes a prison.
This reveals something crucial:
The art of systematically breaking patterns to see reality anew.
You need practical techniques to disrupt your normal patterns of thinking.
Being rational doesn’t mean simply being intelligent or logical...it means the capacity to reflectively become aware of self-deception and systemically intervene it.
So you use your intelligence to systemically (on many levels) overcome self-deception.
Now you want to coordinate all of the rationalities (so that they don't conflict) and they instead are coherent and afford each other...to get a rationally self-transcending field of rationalities.
That long phrase can be replaced with:
