"You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" - most people in that room not knowing this reference says to me that #thebritawards is inclusive of a younger generation, where's the "oldies" at? Are they represented?
I went to school with Chris, and our school was a harsh environment, they did little to help/support him from my POV.
Chris does not warrant or deserve so-called "professionals" to bully him to the point of quitting, what are they doing to help... oh thats right, nothing!
Statement:
"It is with great regret that I must ... explain my withdrawal from consideration as a parliamentary candidate for Kettering constituency, which is a direct result of the accumulation of abuse that I have received both towards both my stammer and my personal safety"
@chris_nelson As do I for you, speaking up about your ordeals with vile people Chris. It takes a strong person to do what you have rather than 'put up & shut up' I hope you know that and feel good about it.
@chris_nelson I dont doubt it, I come across people like those who are willing to turn down a person based on their disabilities but hide it as another reason all the time when employing people in my job.
Keep being as determined as you are. It pays off!
What great parents! And I'm glad to hear some of your classmates found a voice to stand up for you 🙂
Shame on the teacher, im glad it never deterred you from teaching.
@slhsammy30 In fact... I'm not going to identify the teacher... I distinctly remember my fellow primary classmates reporting their teacher for bullying me when trying to answer my name in the register.
My parents used it to stage a sit-in on my behalf. They did that for me more than once.
@chris_nelson Burned into my memory I'm afraid.
Made me have a stronger voice as I grew up.
Not that I'm drawing comparison here, but being a redhead wasn't fun at times and you do soon learn to have thicker skin & ones of those duck's backs for the water to trickle off of 😊
@chris_nelson I am as well as can be, thank you for asking.
I only hope you are too, and I'm glad to see some of the positive messages over different platforms from this.
If you are a glass half-full kind of person then we are all the better for it 😊
@chris_nelson I distinctly remember you having trouble in a class (we didn't have many together) & the teacher lacking any sort of discipline over the bullies. I only wish I had the opinions & confidence I do now to have done something, instead I sat in silence. I feel sad when I think of it.
