When development began on the third game, we used the original Astra Protocol as a testbed for the new engine - which eventually became Astra Protocol Remake, entering open beta in 2025.
Since then however we’ve discovered some with the same or similar titles, and even a crypto currency using it. Adding the “Astra Protocol” to the game was done quite late into development and we’ve still not revealed what the “Astra Protocol” is - yet.
What’s in a Name?
The name, Astra Protocol, didn’t take long to come up with. We wanted something that sounded “futuristic” and we were happy with it once we found no other games that had a matching title.
Most of this engine was ported over to Astra Protocol 2, which came in at less than 1 MB at launch, though it was later down the line that this would cause performance issues on high screen resolutions…
