Since the creation of Pakistan in 1947, the majority of Pak Pashtuns stood with Pakistan. Something like 80%. But in the last 3 years I would say that percentage has come down to 50/50. If there was a slightly more prosperous Afghanistan, I have little doubt that the Pashtuns—minus their corrupt and inept political leadership—would do anything to join it. Because there is nothing worse than being the biggest victims of violence in a country and still constantly be blamed for it. Like being treated like a thief in your home all the time.

There are few things that I can predict with as much certainty as the coming integration of the Afg/Pak Pashtuns. شاء أم أبي. One way or another.

Ideally, we would like Pak and Afg to merge into a confederation. But it seems that is still a much tougher proposition.

This is true. In Pakhtunkhwa, another name for Afghanistan is “Loy Kor” (Great Homeland) 🇦🇫 Solidarity with Afghans is integral to our politics.

Both religious and secular Pashtuns believe this. For example, Khushal Kakar - a secular Pashtun leader - states this view here.

@Yaghistani_521 ANP now has become unpopular but Baacha Khan had been already become popular amongst Pashtuns by 1920s and his coalition with Congress allowed him to win 1937 &46 elections, after 1947 for most time ANP held its popularity against other parties enough time to make generations
