@ArcticSkiis like anything in the image, it exists in the context of the image. i was not talking about genuine people who didnt have the confidence to socialise a lot before getting a suit, i am talking about people who lie about that same thing to garner sympathy and appeal to furries
somethin i noticed a while ago, i dont think we need to gatekeep, but we should be more cautious and selective about who we embrace and put on a pedestal. too many idiots and attention seekers out there.
the fandom should be for us, not people who want to feel like they’re famous
@GoblinGhos81750 But I’m guessing their opinion changed! Which is why we cant draw a hard line & need 2 use our intuition and experience to know someone is or isn’t a genuine or good person based on their character and actions :)
@Hazimier_ thats why we cant draw a hard line & need 2 use our intuition and experience to realise someone isn’t a good person, and on the second point thats something for potential clients to consider. if they draw a good furry maybe their art is worth buying (excl scam accounts ofc)
@InariKoKami thats why we cant draw a hard line & need 2 use our intuition and experience to realise someone isn’t a good person, like waiting to see if the new popular normie turned furry actually deserves fanart/free merch
yknow, instead of the 10 furry commandments or something :P
@twinkhoncreole ok sry i shouldve replied directly, there are 1000s of more famous creators that dont treat their communities poorly & im not advocating for gatekeeping! but i think that we should be more wary of who we put on a pedestal bcus not everyone who joins will have the right intentions
@InariKoKami genuinely bad people (why i focus mostly on things like disdain for other furs & seeing it as a race to become famous)
id never want to exclude kind, genuine furries. we should just be wary of who we put on a pedestal bcus not everyone who joins will have the right intentions
@InariKoKami which is why this isnt a guide for finding these people, just a trend ive noticed of genuine bad actors joining the fandom for easy clout. i dont think we necessarily need to gatekeep/police the fandom, but it would be good for more people to be wary of those who join and are-
@YeenGanG i think you may have missed the point. put as simply as possible i love new people joining the fandom! but i think that we should be more wary of who we put on a pedestal because not everyone who joins will have the right intentions & will abuse the kindness of others if they can
@SH_4RK Well said, I think a lot of furries’ willingness to overlook red flags comes down to kindness and wanting to believe the other person is good, which makes it more unfortunate when it’s taken advantage of :(
@Basil_Mage with becoming an influencer in the space or a 'popufur' becoming the new goal to aspire to if that makes sense. also yea it sucks seeing so many smaller communities deal with new people joining and shifting things around to fit their goals and wants :(
@Basil_Mage ty for sharing your thoughts, i agree with you. i feel like w/ social media being so fast paced and in your face in the past decade, many people see what was the 'long term' parts of the fandom like owning a suit & going to lots of cons almost as a requirement to be a part of it
@Guard_Mutt of course, i didnt leave it out to ignore it, would have added that too but i wanted to focus on the specific ways that some people may abuse the kindness of furries for their own gain
@TheHolyFlapjack we're obviously not on the same page bro, this isnt just a post covid trend thing, i think attention seekers gotta go too and that includes your bomb boy 🤷♂️
when being alt and counter-culture falls out of fashion i think we're going to see a lot of popular newgen furry accounts go dormant when they all move to the next trendy thing. maybe even a bunch of used suit for sale posts
