This is an important bill for police transparency and accountability. Protesting is a fundamental right but our schools and religious institutions must be protected as well. We want to make sure that every child in every neighborhood is protected.
Ensuring students and congregants can enter and exit their schools and houses of worship without fear of harassment or intimidation should not be controversial.
The safe access bills simply require the NYPD to clearly outline how they will ensure safe access when there are threats of obstruction or physical injury, while fully protecting First Amendment rights.
Rape and sexual violence against Israeli women calls for nothing less than unequivocal condemnation.
Israel did not invade Palestinian homes and rape and sexually violate Palestinian women.
Hamas did invade Israeli homes and did rape and sexually violate Israeli women.
There is no “balance” or “both sides” or “moral equivalence” here. Period.
@vailkoyo The labor movement was founded in part by socialist Zionist jews escaping persecution all over the world. To use the labor union to now erase Jewish Zionist pain is an irony I’m certain is lost on you.
@vailkoyo Also why is your one visit to the West Bank relevant to this discussion? Why must you center yourself in this? You have no skin in this game and yet your words harm the people they do.
@vailkoyo Did your union make a statement expressing solidarity with the Thai and Israeli workers that were brutally b*headed and burned on Oct 7, simply for working in Israel? Or does that come too close to acknowledging Jewish pain, so not as trendy?
@vailkoyo Have you stood in solidarity with the millions of Jewish workers around America and Europe who are now afraid to be visibly Jewish in public?
Actually, you’re wrong. Putting up posters in New York City, home to one of the largest Jewish populations in the world seems pretty important to many in the Jewish community. So we should all respect that instead of seeing it through the lens of manipulation— which is deeply dark and cynical. From conversations I’ve had with real impacted humans (something you should try) these posters make them feel like other people care & raise awareness of the suffering of innocent kidnapped people.
I’m very sorry you’re offended by them.
@abigail_balbale Additionally, your original post didn’t block out identifiers, which seems incredibly reckless and like it potentially put kids at risk. I imagine that’s where much of the initial outrage/accusations came from. Thank you for taking down and reposting de-identified.
@abigail_balbale Agree that the discourse is totally toxic. That said, jews should get to define what antisemitism is just like every other marginalized group should get to define what discrimination/hatred against them is. Maybe try to listen instead of speak over them.
Nope! @NYCMayor
* many low income already approved housing ulurps sitting in wait for years. Why?
* office of income discrimination was not properly funded or staffed
* individuals are losing already identified units because HRA is taking forever to process applications/payments
jews are so cute. wanna read the torah? let's give it a lil kiss first. wanna enter a room? let me give this doorpost a tiny smooch. finished reading a holy book? kiss it quick when you close it. i love us and our very specific cultural love language.
I just want to make a few things clear:
The Holocaust happened.
Hitler was a demonic figure.
And instead of giving it a platform, our political leaders should be calling out and rejecting antisemitism wherever it hides.
Silence is complicity.
Almost everything @gregabott_tx is saying about the migrants he’s sending on buses to NYC is wrong.
He is unwilling or unable to see them as human beings.
Here are some facts on who these migrants are. 🧵
@NoIDCNY@harrysiegel@RitchieTorres Then how did you mean the “joke” about “Goldman” who “bought his seat with inherited money?” Also not supposed to be riffing of his Jewishness (whatever tf that means)?
@NoIDCNY@RitchieTorres This apology is trash. Antisemitism is written without a hyphen (a hyphen legitimizes the idea of “semitism,” a nonsense racial classification made popular by Nazis). If you gave a shit about valuing Jewish lives - which you clearly don’t - you would have at least looked that up.
