This life is scary. You be worried about some concerns/troubles or be striving to achieve some goals or even having your best moments and then boom, you are no more. That's where your journey ends and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
@MohYarees Guy, I Dey Hiss like 1,000 times anytime I buy fuel. You fit burn 100k on fuelling for inside Minna in a month. Our living condition just Dey degrade
Full tank for my Honda Accord 2014 with fuel price of N1230 at MRS Filling Station swallowed N100,860.00 from 0 miles to 406 miles, which was equivalent to 80 liters. Tell me. What did I benefit from the removal of subsidy? How did the removal of subsidy improve my life? This is just PMS aspect of life.
I always find this FAAC data interesting.
In 2018, Nigeria shared ₦7.98 trillion through FAAC. At the CBN exchange rate at the time, that was about $26 billion.
In 2025, FAAC was ₦21.9 trillion. That sounds like a massive increase which is almost three times the 2018 figure. But using the CBN rate for 2025, it comes to only about $14.4 billion.
That tells us quite a bit about what has happened to the naira.
In 2018, you needed roughly ₦306 to buy $1. By 2025, you needed around ₦1,500. So yes, there are many more naira in the system today, but each naira is worth much less than it was seven years ago.
The irony is that the weaker naira is itself one of the reasons FAAC looks so big today. If government earns $1 billion from oil and converts it at ₦1,500 to the dollar, it gets far more naira than when the exchange rate was ₦300.
But those extra naira don’t necessarily mean extra purchasing power. If a state government wants to buy equipment from abroad, for example, it is also buying those dollars at something close to ₦1,500.
This isn’t necessarily an argument that the old exchange-rate system was better. That system had its own serious problems, including multiple rates and arbitrage. The reforms since 2023 allowed the official rate to move much closer to where the market was actually pricing the naira.
It is simply a reminder to be careful with big naira numbers.
₦21.9 trillion is certainly more money than ₦7.98 trillion. But ₦1 in 2025 simply doesn’t have the same value as ₦1 in 2018.
And even the dollar comparison doesn’t tell the whole story. If we really want to know whether governments have more spending power today, we also have to account for inflation at home.
That, I suspect, is where this gets even more interesting.
As a PhD holder, I still take courses to advance my knowledge. Some think that a Bachelor’s degree that your father paid for (which is now like “Pure Water” th se days) is all you need to advance in life. As someone once said: “You will lurn and…” 😂
On Social Media, the mentality is: “We judge, we don’t listen.”
Be careful how you treat some opinions from here and don’t let the buggers grind you down.
I am Ezemmuo. I know things.
Sometimes, I need to remind myself that I was never from a poor family, because there was never a time we went to bed without food or woke up to struggle to feed.
Kudos to our parents.
Compound interest works whether you understand it or not. Start small. Start ugly. Just start early. Time does the heavy lifting nobody wants to wait for.
I find that my life improves a lot when I shrink the time horizon. Instead of worrying about long-term goals, I just focus on the next hour. Do one thing that moves me forward. One closed loop. One workout. One hard conversation. One whatever. Thinking about how to build a successful life is daunting. How can you have a successful day? How can you win this hour? Do that. Then do it again. Momentum is a byproduct of movement.
A salary is the most comfortable trap ever built.
It pays just enough to keep you comfortable.
Never quite enough to make you free.
Comfortable people rarely leap, because the cage has a soft cushion and the door is never locked, only heavy.
The goal was never a bigger salary.
It was to reach the point where money works while you sleep.
Build one stream that does not need your body in a chair.
That first dollar you earn without trading an hour for it changes how you see everything.
