Homesteading 20 min from a med size city, 1.5 hr from major city has been the perfect balance for me.
I like the quiet, the open space, and calm energy, while still being close enough to hop over to my major city for the day

Step 1. Dig up your grass and plant something useful (#flax !)
Your crop will be harvested in July summer, with plenty of time for a late summer crop followed by grazing & planting a cover crop.
