I find it very ignorant when I hear people say that a certain tribe hating another tribe was what led to the 2007 PEV. What happened then was organized violence that was possibly pre planned even before election. There were stories of lorries full of pangas coming all the way from Uganda. Everyone who was out there fighting for their community was a goon,at least at the start. Given specific orders and coordinates to attack specific businesses and homes belonging to specific communities in that area. Us,the true citizens who voted,we were hiding our houses. LAND AMENDMENT ACT 2025

The Land Amendment Act 2025, quietly signed by President Ruto on the very day Baba’s death was announced, carries major implications for landowners across Kenya.

All land located within or around urban areas, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Thika, Ruiru, Nakuru, Eldoret, Machakos, Ngong, Kitengela, Kilifi, Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma and similar towns, will now fall under leasehold tenure, even if it was previously freehold.

What does this mean?

In a leasehold agreement there are two parties:
✅ The Lessor, who is the owner (in this case the government)
✅ The Lessee, who is the tenant (you, the landholder)

So, you no longer “own” your land outright. You become a tenant of the government on your own property.

And it doesn’t stop there:
✅ Your land will be revalued by the government, which will then set an annual rent based on its assessed value.
✅ If you wish to sell your land, you will need government approval. If they say no, the sale cannot proceed.

This single amendment quietly transforms private ownership into government-controlled tenancy, and Kenyans need to understand what just happened.
