Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Baba Nafiu Baba Ahmed, mni, a distinguished leader in Kaduna State. He was a statesman, a moral compass to many, Islamic scholar and Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria. Baba Nafiu lived a life of service, scholarship and leadership. He had a distinguished career in law and public service, including senior service at the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, and played an important role in the development of non-interest banking in Nigeria, including through his service with Jaiz Bank.
Beyond his professional achievements, he dedicated decades to advancing Islamic scholarship, justice, religious rights and the welfare of the Muslim Ummah through his leadership of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah. Kaduna has lost an elder whose knowledge, counsel and service extended well beyond our state. I still have very fond childhood memories of him growing up alongside his children, Ahmad and Nasir, in particular. I beseech your prayers for his eternal soul as one of his many children and not as the elected representative of the constituency he lived in. May Allah elevate his soul to the highest levels of Aljannatul Firdausi.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire Baba Ahmed family, the Supreme Council for Shari’ah, the people of Kaduna State and the entire Muslim Ummah. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah grant his family the strength and patience to bear this great loss.
Signed

I want the world to see what the NDC’s thugs came to my community in Effurun, Uvwie LGA of Delta State, to do on Friday, 18th September, 2026. They wrecked havoc on billboards pasted everywhere by Tompolo’s door-to-door Campaign Organisation, entered people’s shops with dangerous weapons and looted the shops. If it had been the other way round against the APC, the section of the bias PRESS and so-called human rights groups would have been screaming to high heavens, but since this happened, EVERYWHERE IS MUTE.
This is the EXACT point I made when I openly condemned the blockade of Peter Obi’s entourage from entering Benue State. But what happened in Benue is nothing compared to this. The double standards everywhere is sickening. The video is clear and the evidence is overwhelming. We have more evidence. The thugs were even accompanied by law-enforcement agents in their payroll. As the foremost political leader in that community, I will not let this slide. I have warned everyone not to resort to self-help.
I WILL BE SUBMITTING A PETITION TO THE INSPECTOR- GENERAL OF POLICE THIS WEEK TO THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATE this incident and bring all those found wanting to book (even against APC leaders, if anyone crossed the line). Disciplinary action should also be taken against those law-enforcement agents in their midst that condoned the looting and destruction of properties.
Some of us are now ready for the long haul!
We all know that what Haifa did was wrong and virtually nobody supported her actions. However, I have questions about what happened afterwards.
From what I have followed, after her tweet went viral, OPay only asked her to take down the post and issue an apology within a specified timeframe. My understanding is that she did exactly what she was asked to do she removed the post and apologised.
So, why would OPay still go ahead to have her arrested, particularly if she had complied with the company’s demands?
I would have viewed the matter differently if Haifa had refused to take down the post or apologise after being asked to do so. But if she did exactly what OPay requested, then I believe there are legitimate questions about why her arrest was still necessary, especially if the decision was influenced by calls from social media users demanding her arrest.
I therefore want to make a sincere and strong appeal to OPay, please, kindly look into this matter again. Haifa is a young woman and a student. She made a mistake, was called out for it, and, from what we all saw, complied with the corrective steps OPay itself requested. If that is indeed the case, I believe keeping her in custody serves little useful purpose.
We can condemn what Haifa did without condemning her as a person. We can hold people accountable for their mistakes while still showing compassion, especially when they have acknowledged the wrongdoing and complied with the remedy requested of them.
OPay, please reconsider this matter. We appeal to you to have Haifa released and allow this incident to end with a lesson learned rather than a young student’s life being unnecessarily derailed.
