Thomas Tuchel went for the same strategy as vs Mexico without, it seems, appreciating Argentina have the attacking ability to unpick a low block over 30mins. That is a pitiful way to exit the World Cup at this stage.
Watch Spain at 1-0 last night. That’s courage. That’s bravery. And then watch England at 1-0. What’s the difference?
We are a better team than Argentina, I’ve no doubt in my mind. But we deserved to get beat in the end. In fact, it could have been 4-1.
Bringing on 3 defenders at 1-0 up. What message does that send? I wrote it in my Daily Mail column after the Mexico game. Until we understand that courage and bravery is controlling possession under pressure and not booting / heading it up the field 40 yards then this will always be the end result.
I was afraid of false “9” messi
Same for CAM Messi
But this Right wing version of Messi at this age is crazy…
The guy is blessed and there’s nothing you can do about it… the greatest of them all❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻
Portugal’s failure at the World Cup is on Roberto Martinez.
After watching Portugal’s group stage game against Colombia, I knew Portugal wouldn’t go far. A good coach would have made Bruno Fernandes the center of it all.
But he kept telling João Neves and Vitinha to pass sideways throughout the tournament, making them look very different from what we saw at PSG.
Bruno Fernandes was known at Manchester United for receiving passes in midfield so he could contribute to his wingers and strikers, exactly how he did with Mbeumo and Cunha with those fast runs.
And we all know Ronaldo is old, and no coach should be playing him for more than 75 minutes, no matter the result. The game plan with him should have been stay in the box, and we’ll do all the crossing for you.
Then Neto and Cancelo shouldn’t have been playing so many games at this World Cup, especially with how poor they were going forward. Dalot, who at least knows Bruno well, didn’t even get many minutes.
A coach who couldn’t take Belgium anywhere during their golden generation or get the best out of De Bruyne should have told Portugal everything they needed to know going into this World Cup. Keeping him ahead of the tournament was a terrible decision.
