“Kathy Hochul just committed the largest daylight robbery in New York history, looting $4 billion from your family’s grocery and rent budget to bankroll Zohran Mamdani’s socialist experiment,” Nassau County Executive and Republican candidate for Governor Bruce Blakeman said
The year is 1786. The radically Islamic ‘Barbary Pirates,’ operating out of north Africa, had spent several years attacking, pillaging, and destroying U.S. trade vessels in the Mediterranean Sea; killing and enslaving hundreds of Americans in the process.
For years, the European ‘super powers’ had proven to be totally incapable (or disinterested) in stopping these Islamic pirates from destabilizing commerce, projecting their power across the region, and terrorizing all of their regional neighbors.
During this time period the United States of America, still in its infancy, didn’t have much of a navy to speak of or with which to defend itself; it wouldn’t be until 1801 that President Jefferson would go to war against the Barbars - but still, in 1786, our soon-to-be first President, George Washington, wrote the following:
“In such an enlightened, in such a liberal age, how is it possible that the great maritime powers of Europe should submit to pay an annual tribute to the little piratical States of Barbary? Would to Heaven we had a navy able to reform those enemies to mankind, or crush them into nonexistence."
In this quote, George Washington, in essence, says that if the United States had had a navy at the time, he’d have used it to “reform,” or to “crush into nonexistence" the Barbary pirates; putting an end to their terroristic and exploitative activity.
Now, let me ask you all a question: what do you think George Washington would do, right now, about the Iranian regime?
America First.
