The British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued a methanol and alcohol poisoning alert for Nigeria and six other countries.

It specifically asks travellers to, among others, be cautious of pre-mixed, spirit-based drinks, such as cocktails, and shots.

It emphasises that “even small amounts of methanol can kill. It is not possible to identify methanol in alcoholic drinks by taste or smell.”
