I’m sick of being asked, “why don’t you medicate your child?”
Bc we talked about it as a family & our kid said they didn’t want to.
It shouldn’t be so radical to allow children a say over their own bodies.
A little background:
When asking about ADHD medication for adults, most doctors have told us that, “there is no silver bullet. It may help sometimes & other times not. It will take a lot of trial & error to figure out the right medication & dosage, too.”
Never mind that kids around puberty are experiencing huge changes to their bodies & minds. Never mind that society & school is suddenly exerting so much more pressure to “become good adults”.
Never mind all the advice given to actual legal adults about the same medications.
Went to the open house for Kiddo’s new school. Wow they really demonstrated how to make their space safe & inclusive for all students (& not just the buzzwords for their website)! I haven’t felt this hopeful about education in years. Lying awake excited for Sept to roll around!
I often wonder what it must be like to NOT dread sending your kid to school. To not dread asking your child about their day, only to find out they have been bullied (again), & that the adults in charge aren’t really doing anything about the bigotry behind bullying.
I feel sick at the number of people who claim to want to “protect kids” but whose teachings will only egg on those who will harm mine. I shouldn’t have to educate my child on how to keep themselves safe in the face of bigotry.
am I irrationally anxious or am I having a perfectly normal reaction to surging xenophobia, worsening geopolitical unrest and a tech industry that seems keen to abolish human literature and creativity
@AutisticCallum_ Part of parenting my AuDHD small is telling them to trust their gut. Those “land mine sensors” will often keep them safe; a priority over “being nice” in this messed-up world they’re inheriting.
I figure, people will be offended anyway. I’d rather they come home in one piece.
Oh how interesting! Alberta Health quietly released an updated guide for the public on masking. Here are some highlights: #abhealth
- Albertans with any respiratory symptoms should wear a mask for 10 days
- masking is a reasonable precaution when in indoor and/or crowded spaces
