Photographing the land, the sea and the night sky of Ardnamurchan, Ardgour, Moidart, Morvern & Sunart on the north west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
That’s the end of that then
Something that I’ve been toying for a while. Leaving X and deleting the app today. Instead, you can find me over on Bluesky at https://t.co/D3xst029oN.
Maclean's Moon I - Camas nan Geall, Ardslignish, #Ardnamurchan
The view over Camas nan Geall with the full Worm Moon of March setting over the sea out beyond MacLean's Nose.
In the Wind - Sanna, #Ardnamurchan
The marram grass that covers the sand dunes around the beach at Sanna feeling the full force of a strong westerly wind on a blustery but bright February afternoon
Island Retreat - Tioram Cottage, Eilean Shona, #Moidart
The small white shape of Tioram Cottage on Eilean Shona on the other side of Loch Moidart’s South Channel as it caught catches my eye at daybreak on a February morning.
From the Gloom - Castle Tioram, Dorlin, #Moidart
Castle Tioram emerges from the gloom of a rain soaked and overcast morning as light manages to break through the low cloud that was hanging above Loch Moidart
Winter Colours - Sunart Oakwoods, Resipole, #Sunart
It may be winter, but there is still colour to be found in Sunart's ancient Atlantic Oakwoods and the contrast between the silver skeletons of oaks and the mauve swathes of bare silver birch trees always seems to catch my eye.
Night Beacon - Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, #Ardnamurchan
The light of Ardnamurchan Lighthouse shining bright under a starry night sky. It’s such an impressive structure from any angle. I especially like the ‘Egyptian Style’ architectural detail that runs beneath the balcony.
New Blog: Belt of Venus
The band of pale pinks in the twilight before sunrise or sunset is the Belt of Venus. Its name has nothing to do with the planet Venus but instead is associated with the girdle worn by the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Find out more at https://t.co/zRS8UtVfk2.
The Day’s End - Loch Linnhe, Corran Ferry, #Ardgour
What better way is there to end the day, but with a ferry trip across the Corran Narrows while watching the sun go down behind snow-capped mountains. Wonderful, absolutely wonderful.
Beneath Giants - The Alphabet Trail, Salen, #Ardnamurchan
Capella, the brightest star in the constellation of Auriga (The Charioteer), and the 11th brightest star in the night sky, shining bright above the tall larch trees that line the Alphabet Trail near Salen.
Wandering and Snapping - Sanna, #Ardnamurchan
A few iPhone snaps from a wander along the beach at Sanna because sometimes it’s good to just wander and snap with the phone and not be weighed down by all the camera gear.
@Treespotter25 Yes Stephen, a great place to be and the walk over to Portuairk is lovely, but that’s for another time. Same for Bay MacNeil, as I’m saving that for another time. it never disappoints though and the walk to it from Portuairk is a good one too.
Icy Past II - Sailean nan Cuileag, Salen, #Ardnamurchan
The last of the ice from the prolonged cold spell clings on to the fringes of Sailean nan Cuileag as it loses the battle against a rising tide during sunset on a calm January evening.
