She stood in the European Parliament to attack the Cyprus Peace Operation - using photographs of Turkish Cypriots murdered by Greek Cypriots.

Greek MEP Afroditi Latinopoulou used the image of Nevcihan Oluşum, taken by Don McCullin in 1964, moments after Greek Cypriot forces killed her husband. And the İlhan family - a mother and her three sons, aged six, four and six months, shot dead in their bathtub by EOKA gunmen on 24 December 1963.

In one image she used, a banner reads: “Nobody forgets. Nothing is forgotten.”

She forgot. Or she never knew.

Two possibilities, neither flattering. Either she cannot recognise the most infamous images of Turkish Cypriot suffering in modern history - and is lecturing a continent about an island whose history she never learned. Or she recognised them perfectly well, and used murdered Turkish Cypriot children as props against the operation that stopped the killing.

Nevcihan Oluşum died in 2018. Mürüvvet İlhan and her boys never grew up. They deserve better than to be used by someone who cannot say who killed them.

@MakichyanA For armenians who occupied Karabakh for 30 yrs & committed #KhojalyGenocide, having “Azerbaijan” listed as their birthplace in new Armenian passports is a common thing, since Karabakh is & has always been internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.
