A young girl in a war-torn country encounters an escaped lab animal from a rogue research facility, and gets infected by the nanotech it carries.
There is a lot of excitement about a possible new room temperature superconductor.
A lot of physicists have weighed in on the superconducting results but I haven't seen much comment on the material itself and how they made it. So here's my take 🧵

If you only retweet ONE thing today, let it be this list of 156 House Republicans who voted to raise the retirement age for Social Security to age 70.
Don't let them get away with it.
Make sure EVERYONE knows.
If Biden did what Mitch did today the media would be covering non stop for the next two weeks. But because it’s a Republican it’s like nothing ever happened.
The right wing bias of corporate media is nuts.
When President Biden fell, Republicans spent days attacking him. It was heartless and cruel.
And speaking of heartless & cruel, while I despise Mitch McConnell with every fiber of my being, I’m not going to attack him for whatever health event he’s going through right now.
He’s inflicted tremendous harm on this country. Irreparable harm.
But high-fiving over what looked like a stroke to me, just ain’t my thing.
I'll tell you this: None of us like Mitch McConnell because of the horrible things he's said and done as Senator.
But he had a medical incident today, and I saw a lot of well-wishers on our side. As it should be.
But when Senator John Fetterman had a medical episode, there were legions of Republicans who made fun and mocked him.
We are NOT the same.
Rudy Giuliani has now admitted he lied about the two Georgia election workers. Think about how many people’s lives have been impacted by all of these Trump supporting individuals who’ve been knowingly lying about the 2020 election. The anger, the hate, the threats against election workers & public servants across the country…
What happens when the community notes feature of Twitter—which is supposed to allow for more truth—does a note that shows Musk is wrong? @elonmusk has the note removed.

(1,2) I thought I knew everything about the last administration and its response to the Parkland shooting. However, the new @MilesTaylorUSA book Blowback adds some new and infuriating details. The fact of how involved the NRA was in the response was worse than I thought.
I was at the river, hidden in the reeds, hoping to take photos of wildlife when I espied a man tenderly carrying his dog into the water and gently setting her down. The old dog seemed soothed and contented to be in the water and moved around using her front legs.
When she got into deeper water, the man lovingly scooped her into his arms again and brought her back to shallow waters and there they stood together in companionable quietude.
I approached the man as I was leaving and shared that I couldn't resist taking photos of him and his dog. I learned that the man's name is Tony and his 13-year-old dog is Maya, who slowly lost movement in her hind legs after an accident five years ago. Tony had inherited her from his son who went into the Marines 11 years ago, and he and Maya have been inseparable since that time. He likes to take her to the river where the water makes her light enough to move around easily on her own.
As Tony and I visited, Maya made her way over to me for greetings and quiet caresses. I gave Tony my number in case he would like to have photos of a candid moment between him and his Maya. I sent him these, and he sent me a very kind note.
Out of the river and back into the fray of everyday life I went, strengthened by the Grace I had witnessed.

Jim Thorpe, a celebrated Native American athlete hailing from Oklahoma, achieved fame as an Olympic Gold medalist and is often regarded as one of the greatest athletes in history. In 1912, he represented the United States in the Olympics held in Sweden, where he was joined by future General George Patton as a teammate.
Before conquering the three-day decathlon, encompassing ten track and field events, Thorpe had already secured a gold medal in the pentathlon with remarkable ease. However, during the second day of the decathlon, just before the 1500 meters race, Thorpe encountered a setback – his shoes had disappeared, likely stolen. In a desperate search for a solution, he turned to his teammates and managed to find an extra shoe, though it was too small. Nevertheless, he squeezed his foot into it. He then stumbled upon the other shoe in a trash bin, which, conversely, was too big for him. To make it fit, he ingeniously padded it with a couple of pairs of socks.
Undeterred by this footwear predicament, Thorpe faced off against the world's finest decathletes and remarkably won the 1500 meters race. During the decathlon, he demonstrated his exceptional talent by securing first place in four events and finishing no lower than fourth in the remaining six events, all while wearing mismatched shoes. Consequently, he clinched yet another gold medal.
Upon receiving the prestigious accolades, King Gustav V of Sweden bestowed two Olympic gold medals upon Thorpe and declared him the world's greatest athlete. Graciously, Thorpe replied with a simple "Thanks."
After the Olympics, this versatile athlete pursued an illustrious career, excelling in various sports. He ventured into the National Football League as a two-time All-American college football player, briefly played professional basketball, and enjoyed a fruitful seven-season stint in Major League Baseball. Thorpe's legacy as an extraordinary athlete and his inspiring feat with the mismatched shoes have left an indelible mark on the world of sports.
