Discussion and Debate with a Smile

We are still waiting for the Gov report on the cost of Brexit. Budget announced £ 3 billion for Brexit + extra customs officials + civil servants, legal bills etc etc. Biggest cost is lower growth and we have not yet felt the effect of alienating our biggest trading partner!

UK increases the money on the table and Barnier confirms the City's reduced access to Europe. No cake and no eating! Was this what people voted for?

[Hugh Easterbrook @smarterbrexit]

FT yesterday "Britain deluding itself over single market access" the truth is there is no "good deal" other than the one we have now.

Best wishes to Claire-Louise Leyland & Kirsty Allan for their political futures. Both exceptional candidates our country is fortunate.

Congratulations to Tulip Siddiq on her decisive victory. Tulip I am sure you will serve the constituents of Hampstead and Kilburn well.

[Hugh Easterbrook @smarterbrexit]

@tobygilles Yes if they have a compelling argument. The economy will also argue the case strongly in the months to come. Sadly.

[Hugh Easterbrook @smarterbrexit]

@tobygilles Absolutely right. I have done a lot wrong, in particular twitter & Facebook. Local press reluctant to engage. But an interesting experience

[Hugh Easterbrook @smarterbrexit]

@tobygilles Toby the response on the street has been very positive indeed. Unfortunately I have not been able to speak to enough people.

[Hugh Easterbrook @smarterbrexit]

@tobygilles Toby many thanks. It is hard as an independent but I do feel passionately that there must be a better way. Current approach very worrying!

On the street voters are worried about the future and disappointed with the lack of practical and positive solutions.

[Hugh Easterbrook @smarterbrexit]

Interesting conversation with well informed Tory canvasser. hopes that post election Gov adopts an approach closer to @smarterbrexit

[Hugh Easterbrook @smarterbrexit]

@NewJournal EU open to reform - Britain to align with non-Eurozone countries to address referendum issues without hurting the economy. @smarterbrexit
