What actually happened to $POL over the first three quarters of 2026?

Let’s look at the numbers.

Polygon Chain generated 291M POL ($30M) in network fees, allocated 161M POL for burning, and issued 166M new tokens.

In other words, base fees almost covered the entire new token emission. Just a 5M POL difference.

Here’s where everything went:

1. Network fees: 291M POL

• 161M POL in base fees allocated for burning. 100M already burned, another 60M+ expected by year-end. The amount keeps growing.

• 131M POL in priority fees generated for block producers, validators, and stakers. For the first time, stakers are also receiving a share of these fees.

2. New token emissions: 166M POL

• 83M POL issued as staking rewards, going to stakers minus validator commissions.

• 83M POL issued to the Polygon Community Treasury. Its balance has now reached around 214M POL, with no spending for over two years.

So the economics are pretty simple:

• Base fees → Burned 🔥
• Priority fees → Network security
• Staking emissions → Network security
• Community Treasury emissions → Accumulated in the Community Treasury

One interesting detail: roughly half of the Community Treasury’s POL is currently staked, while most of the rest sits unused, with some providing POL/sPOL liquidity.
