Splashdown of #Apollo11 occurred 54 years ago today. Our descent back through the heat of Earth’s atmosphere was appropriately capped with a cool dip in the Pacific, and our recovery by our dedicated military services solidified a safe and successful return from the Moon. The splashdown operation marked the start of after-action work ahead following our quarantine. In many ways, the end of Apollo XI was really just the beginning.
I like that everyone on Twitter gets to experience what its like to work at a university: youre struggling to make the thing do what its traditionally meant/valued to do while a bunch of finance guys “innovate” all function & trust away; occasionally embarrassing rebrands happen.
Ellen Terry’s famous Lady Macbeth “beetle wing” dress was designed for her by Alice Comyns Carr & was first worn on stage in Dec 1888. Meant to invoke fear, the addition of 1000 beetle wing cases created the effect of scales. Recently restored. #ShakespeareSunday#FolkloreSunday
With Trump back on Twitter,
it’s a good time to watch this Jan 6 hearing. It covers each of Trump’s tweets that day, including those that have been deleted, and features multiple Trump WH staff describing his inexcusable conduct during the violence. https://t.co/pVSGKf5q0P
A little over 200 years ago, this ichthyosaur was found in Lyme Regis, almost certainly by Mary Anning. It was described in 1819 & named ‘Proteosaurus’.
Sadly, it was destroyed in London in 1941, during WWII.
This illustration (top) was the only evidence we had, until now...

Under the Biden-Harris Administration’s student loan debt plan, up to 27 million Pell Grant recipients earning less than $125,000 a year will be eligible for $20,000 in relief – helping those who need it the most.
Ballooning student loan balances make it harder for working and middle-class borrowers to buy a home or save for retirement.
The Administration’s proposal would cover borrowers’ unpaid monthly interest so their balance does not grow as long as they make their monthly payments.
This proposed income-driven repayment plan will save the typical borrower more than $1,000 each year. And the temporary changes to PSLF are changing lives right now. Apply here: https://t.co/EA6Blg4g9v
@bjnovak Agreed. They are ageist and ableist. Require you to have a device with you and most just link to a pdf that is difficult to read or navigate. “Zooming in” doesn’t work with arthritis and eyes over 50.
