Who’s ISIS?

ISIS is a terrorist organization that emerged in Iraq after the US invasion, primarily targeting Muslims and innocents in both Muslim-majority countries and Western nations.

What’s their ideology?

During the 18th century of the Ottoman Empire, which ruled most of the Arab lands, the UK and France supported various uprisings against the Ottomans to carve out “states” and occupy them, either through direct occupation (like Northern Africa and the Levant for France, and Iraq and the Gulf region for the UK).

The UK approach was more indirect in the Arabian Peninsula:

In Hijaz: The UK sent agents and orientalists to incite Arabs against their Ottoman leadership, particularly by influencing Sharif Hussein, the great-grandfather of @KingAbdullahII of Jordan.

He led a war against the Ottoman Muslims with UK arms and officers and Arab rebellions.

In Najd: The UK supported a local Bedouin named Muhammad bin Saud, using similar tactics as with Sharif Hussein in Hijaz.

His approach was different; he allied with a local imam named Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab (1687–1765) who proposed new interpretations of the already established Hanbali fiqh school and the Muslim Creed!.

However, they began killing Muslims indiscriminately, with the sheikh issuing fatwas permitting the killing of Muslims, declaring every town that fell under their control a “conquered town.”

What gave leverage to the Saudi- Wahhabi led war against the Muslims of Hijaz and Najd in all three Saudi states was their access to UK arms, which were superior to the weapons possessed by other tribes. (The Ottomans didn’t impose their rule on the Arab Bedouin tribes; they were free to choose their local leadership while pledging allegiance to the Muslim caliphate)
