Restoring accountability starts with consistent, transparent officiating: stricter enforcement of existing rules, meaningful technical and flagrant foul consequences for reckless contact, and clear standards that protect every player equally regardless of profile or team.

Concrete steps that can help reestablish the league as a beacon of fair sportsmanship include:
Immediate review and public accountability for missed or under-called fouls that escalate physical play.
Enhanced training and evaluation for officials focused on player protection and consistent application of the rulebook.
League-wide emphasis on respect and competitive excellence through messaging, player education, and visible leadership.
Swift, even-handed discipline that prioritizes safety without stifling legitimate physical basketball.

The WNBA’s long-term strength rests on being a stage where skill, toughness, and mutual respect coexist. Addressing these issues decisively would reinforce that standard and serve the players, the fans, and the future of the game.
