Hey Canada, thanks for the assisted suicide brochure. She chose chemotherapy instead.

Kristin Logan had stage 4 ovarian cancer, and according to her husband, Donovan James, while they were desperately trying to get her treated in Canada, they were confronted with MAID, Medical Assistance in Dying, Canada’s assisted dying program, while her actual cancer treatment was going nowhere. So they came to the United States, where she received chemotherapy and HIPEC surgery.

Today she’s living in Texas, in remission, lifting weights and hiking mountains. Imagine that. A woman with stage 4 cancer wanted to LIVE, and instead of helping her die, American doctors helped her fight to stay alive. Crazy concept, I know.

Canada, you can keep the assisted suicide brochure. She’ll keep climbing mountains, because I think she made her choice pretty clear. 🇺🇸

@oliveegger Some people have no idea how to think for themselves. It's such a follower type of society. Cognitive thinking is simply not a part of what we're seeing. Emotional regulation has never been more important. Strong difference between PPD and getting overstimulated.

My 17-year-old son was in a horrific accident on Monday. He was ejected from the vehicle, and we have been at Hamilton General ever since.

He has a fractured neck, a broken shoulder, broken ribs, broken elbow, broken collar bone and multiple other injuries.

And yet, since yesterday afternoon, my injured 17-year-old child has been left in a hospital hallway, under the brightest lights, with no privacy, no proper place to rest, and very little relief.

I understand our hospitals are overwhelmed. I understand our healthcare workers are stretched beyond their limits. This is not an attack on the nurses and doctors who are doing everything they can.

This is about a system that is failing both its patients AND its healthcare workers.

How have we gotten to the point where a child with a fractured neck and multiple traumatic injuries is left lying in a hallway?

And I don’t even want to make this about me, because I would sit beside my son on the floor for the rest of my life if that’s what he needed. But one week ago today, I finished 38 rounds of chemo. I’ve now spent days sitting in a hard chair beside him, running on fear, adrenaline and exhaustion, with no relief in sight.

Something has to change.

We work. We pay taxes. We pay into benefits. We do everything we’re supposed to do — and when our families desperately need help, where is it?

This isn’t acceptable healthcare.

This isn’t compassion.

And this isn’t something we should just learn to tolerate because “there aren’t enough beds.”

There aren’t enough beds. There aren’t enough resources. There aren’t enough supports. And our families and healthcare workers are paying the price.

We need change. We need accountability. And we need it NOW.

Because no parent should have to watch their seriously injured child recover in a hospital hallway.
